i personally think it needs more details, but of course im a detail man. But then again the simplicity doesnt draw from the emotion he is giving out... The middle area (chest) looks a bit cluttered in this render, how about have him shaking a humans hand or something? Im not sure. I still think you should lurk in the c4d section of cgtalk, you can learn a hell of a lot of techniques there...
Well its nice to see you back mate, keep on being creative

beechdbum - As I looked at my sketch for the helmet I was thinking of ways to get the nice tight seams in the proper places in the easiest way. I ended up modeling one piece of the helmet at a time starting from the top. I then duplicated the finished piece, deleted all the points/polys in the mesh up to the edges so I was left with an outline of the edge. I then scaled the outline down and extruded the edges to form the next piece of the helmet, this way all my edges lined up right from the start, no hassle. The helmet was the last form of this robot, if it was the first, the entire design would be drastically different because I rarely follow sketches to the extreme unless the job specifically calls for it.

oh yea, you can always select the points on the edge you want to get a seam in, right click and go split. This makes a new polygon object and from there you can extrude. I personally would use poly by poly modelling (ctrl + click when in add point mode, then bridge) because you have more control, but it seams your modelling method is fairly effective.

Oh, so that's how this works. Thanks for the tips, I try to make it to the cgtalk forums every once in a while but it's been a long time since I really tried to learn something new with this software. It seems though, that the forum would be the right place to do just that. I'll see you around.

The helmet was the most fun and also my favorite part of the design process Joey, I ran into a new modeling style while I created it.
