Description
**I (after 3 years) uploaded a better photo of this drawing. The background used to be black, but the sunlight has bleached it to a purple. I'm thinking about coloring in the whole thing with conte so that it's back to it's dark glory**This was one of my portfolio pieces, and it's from a scene in the movie Phantom of the Opera. It's poster sized, about 3ft high, and is done in colored pencil on black paper.
This piece means a lot to me because it got me through the hell that was Art 30. Not only did I have to deal with an "unfortunate" art teacher, I was in class full of students who didn't care. I got help with my projects every two weeks or so because she was busy 'helping' others (aka, on the computer checking her email) or lecturing us about how busy she was all the time. I was on the verge of dropping the class when I saw Phantom of the Opera, and Gerard Butler's and Emmy Rossum's performances blew me away. My fingers started to itch almost as soon as the movie was done, and I haunted the net for days looking for the perfect reference. I finally found this one, and knew I had to put pencil to paper. It was scary...only my second colored pencil drawing, but I'm glad I did it. Funny thing is that I only had the Phantom's hand to do when my teacher saw it for the first time and said "Oh wow! Aren't you glad you had me as a teacher?!" I almost decked her. Ah well, it got me through and now it's on my wall. I'm glad I did it, and to this day absolutely love Phantom of the Opera and Gerard Butler. He basically inspired me to get through this piece (sounds corny but what the hell) and I'm a fan to this day.
Here's the "other half" [link]
Here it is on the wall [link]
Thank you so much to who offered to clear up the picture and reduce the glare etc. I appreciate it

This is amazing! I love the mood you've created... dark, seductive, and just beautiful. The details on her dress are amazing as well. Love it!

You're welcome! And I'd say that was difficult, yes. Why are dresses always so difficult to draw or paint?! But yeah, totally worth it, it looks amazing.

..omg!! brilliant!
portfolio? are you in some.. art college or highschool or classes or ...smth? did you need a portfolio for admission or for your final exams?
because if i think about it (your skill level and stuff...) the level required to get in it's pretty high...

EuroFoxx In reply to Elena-Ciolacu [2008-01-01 20:09:02 +0000 UTC]
No no, I just took art classes in high school, and our "portfolio" was just the number of drawings we had to complete during the course. Some of us were entered into the city's art competition, but overall it was just our drawings that we completed for the term. My teacher wanted me to apply to the art college down south but I'm not doing anything art related for a career so I didn't do it. I actually have no idea what the standards for art college are, so if you're thinking about it don't stress out Best bet would be to go on their website or give their admissions department a call because you never know! Besides, judging by your gallery you shouldn't really have a problem

This is fabulous! So much emotion, and so sensual! The shadows are wonderfully done! Not to mention the detail in her dress and the folds on the jacket!!!!

The lace on the dress was a doozie to work on, but it was a fun kind of challenge. I love the movie, and this part in it is just so...*sigh*

Dear God. I wish I had the skills you have with colored pencils. I truly do. Seriously. I just can't take my eyes off both this piece and "Red Death." It pains me even now to just type this comment and not be looking at the pieces. They are just so well done. The accuracy of the colors, proportions, and just everything blow my mind.

Wow thank you, you're way too kind. It's great to hear that you like the Phantom pieces, a lot of time and effort went into the pair. They were really daunting at first because of the large scale, but I'm so glad I finished both! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, thank you very much!

How did you get the colored pencils to show up on lack paper? was it the brnd or did you go over it many times? i really want to know because i tried doing something like that and my colored pencils were like sper crappy...it also didnt help that they were from the dolar store did it? LoL anyways i love the pic. it really makes christine look better that she does in the movie. the phantom is sexy!

EuroFoxx In reply to Sin-N-Kill [2007-10-24 03:39:34 +0000 UTC]
Both, actually. They're prismacolors, which are pretty good, and I did have to layer them a lot. It's time consuming, but fun! Dollar store brand wouldn't exactly help, no
And thank you for the lovely comment, yes the Phantom is really really sexy
