During Dark of the Moon, Shockwave was literally walking around and some office supplies and a mug and a soldier fall on or near him. He looks up and sees Sam and his friends in a teetering skyscraper and says, DRILLER BOT IS THIRSTY.... (It's kind of hard to make out due to his voice in the movie, but he said it.)

Nicole made the face-mask and gloves out of her nanites-- they're a focusing device for his powers, so he can be more effectively used as a weapon while mind-controlled.

At the beginning of the entire comic, Eggman was controlling Shadow with it. It pretty much monitors his heart, makes him blind(or he might see something different then whats really happening) and the bonds on his hands are controlled as well
