Description
With cities and towns surrounded by walls, each is their own island. They rely on recycling plants to reuse nutrients and water. They use power stations that rely on fusion and nuclear power in order support the defenses and homes that dwell within. They dig downward to create more room, rather then up. For resources that they cannot create on their own, there are runners who move these goods from city to city. But even with that, there are people who wish to go out into the wilderness. Some go out to hunt and collect fresh foods, as the recycled food matter does not have the same taste as meat and fruit. Some leave to go to new cities and towns, determined to leave theirs behind. Some go out in research teams. There is a multitude of reasons that some people choose to leave the safety of the walls and venture into the wilderness. At first the cities denied such actions, but this resulted in a "cabin fever" syndrome with the population, who felt that they were trapped in their own homes (Note: a small portion of the population actually goes outside, whereas most are content living comfortably behind the walls. It was the mere notion that the government could take away such freedom that upset the population so much.) To allow such things, the walls now have human-sized security locks. To either exit or enter, the person must contact a guard at the station, who will then input the code required to open the heavily-armored door that leads into an airlock. Once the person has entered, the chamber is sealed and the guard must ask the person if they wish to continue this venture. Upon agreement, the second door is opened and the person inside must leave within 10 seconds, or else the doors will automatically close. This process is to ensure that Aviatons do not use these entrances to breach the city. In case an Aviaton somehow squeezes its frame into this chamber, a guard can activate a kill switch that electrocutes the entire chamber. The voltage is high enough to fry the electronics of the Aviation, and flash fry any organic inside as well. These doors are used mainly by the low or middle class, as the rich can afford runners who can transport them. The survival tactics of those who go into the wilderness is a broad subject, one that will not be explored here. The main point is that it was these outside travelers who discovered the existence of the Paradices.Documentation of Paradices by outsiders was the only way people learned of their existence. This discovery was recent, but this does not suggest that these were created only recently. It is believed that this was the only time an outsider survived an encounter and made it back to tell the tale. When other stories began to pop up, scientists and researchers began to put together the pieces to understand what the Paradices are, and what they do.
--The following information on the Aviaton: Paradice is based solely on the accounts and documentation of citizens and outsiders. This information is meant to hypothesize their abilities and purpose. Further information may support or negate the following statement. If you have any information or evidence of the Paradice, please contact your local research facility.--
- Paradices have long, thin wires that can be whipped at high speeds. The toughness and thinness of the wires allow these appendages to slice through a wide variety of materials. Some of these end in blades or barbs.
- Paradices lack legs or claws and mainly hang from trees or other tall structures. Thicker, dull wires are used to wrap around a perch, and the Paradice dangles below. (Note: Some accounts have mentioned the faint hum that is emitted by the Paradice. This suggest the use of repulsors, which may help negate the Paradice's weight.)
- Paradices do not move or give pursuit to prey, they remain stationary. Metallic screeches are used to alert other Aviatons of an escaping sentient. (Note: One account claims that the Paradice dropped from the tree and scuttled on bladed limbs and wings that make up its body. More evidence and accounts needed.)
- Paradices have extremely good sight, being able to detect faint movements and subtle changes. The Paradices have four eyes on the head and a large eye on the back that may see in other spectrums and wavelengths to allow such ability.
- Paradices cannot fly.
- The wires of a Paradice are retracted into the body until a sentient or disturbance is detected. When needed, they can emerge quickly to take down targets. Current number of wires on a Paradice is unknown
-Paradices are only present in thick forested areas. These areas are not accessible to runners. Encounters with Paradices have occurred far from any cities and towns.
-- End Speculation ---
Researcher Note (High clearance required): Multiple accounts have been detailed enough for use to get a rough estimate of where the Paradices are. Some accounts overlap and suggest the same Paradice, while others are more spaced out. Mapping these points have shown that these locations create the outline of a circle. The circle covers many square miles. The location of the circular zone has not been released to the public and will not until more information is collected. Those who violate the security and privacy of this matter while be discharged from duty and imprisoned.
We need to know what they are guarding.

WOW. Grade-A creepypasta right here, even if it wasn't intended as such.

Thanks! It wasn't fully intended, I did want to give these guys a bit of mystery, but it ended up a little creepier then I expected.
