Description The first sighting of the entity was when a space telescope picked up the image of a long obsidian object hurtling towards Earth. Due to its rock-like exterior and wobbling flight, it was at first believed to be a meteor. As it drew closer, though, clearer images were made, showing a geometric shape that was believed to be too precise and clean for mere space debris. The public immediately jumped on the idea that this was a spaceship, due to its unnatural design and trajectory towards Earth. Since this shape showed no sign of action or control over its erratic flight, researchers wondered if this was the case. Perhaps this was some hunk of space rock ready to strike the Earth. Thankfully, the calculations suggested that such impact would not be catastrophic, as the object was less than 20 meters in length and traveling at a rather slow speed. This provided little comfort when the object finally struck the atmosphere and began its arrival to Earth. Those who hoped for a real UFO had their hopes dashed as the object showed no signs of slowing and wound up slamming into the ground. Through luck or fate, the meteor wound up making impact in an uninhabited part of Sweden. No towns or villages were harmed by the impact, though the local wildlife was probably not too pleased by this sudden event.

When the dust finally settled, research teams swarmed the crater and were stunned by what they found. The black column had remained intact during its crash, jutting awkwardly from the scorched dirt. There was no damage to be found on its exterior, retaining its perfect geometric shape despite its brutal journey. Things got even stranger when daylight arrived. As the sun struck the column, it began to vibrate. Fearing the worst, the researchers fled to the edges of the crater and chose to observe from a distance. As the sun climbed to its peak in the sky, the column followed its path, somehow straightening itself until it stood perfectly upright. Once it erected itself, the top part slid open and the pillar began to breathe.

The researchers had a hard time believing what they were witnessing, but there was no denying the sound. Like a great metallic bellows, the column was breathing in and out. As the activity grew faster and louder, the column reached its peak and vomited forth a blackened cloud. Like a sandstorm of obsidian, it swirled into the sky and spread into the heavens. The bright light of noon was soon blotted out by the great cloud, dulling the earth below it. After a minute or two, the massive dark cloud was sucked back into the column and the light returned. Though the scientists didn't know it at the time, this was the first real breath of Ebon Plume.

The exhaling and inhaling of this dark cloud quickly became a constant thing, and its effects were soon realized. Within days, the pillar had grown in size, and others like it budded from its base. It was theorized that this action was meant to collect solar energy, which was then used to fuel its growth. This was proved correct when samples were collected from the massive obsidian clouds. They turned out to be comprised of metallic particles that were specially designed to absorb and retain solar energy. Their alien structure could hold an impressive amount of energy and even the smallest cloud of them could drastically dampen the light of a room. They didn't just taken in the light that struck them, they seemed to suck the sunlight in. After they had saturated themselves with this energy, the massive column would inhale and pull them back into its structure. Somewhere inside, the pillar would absorb the collected energy, draining them like they were tiny batteries. Once emptied, they would be released again to continue the cycle. It was a fascinating system, and one that science hoped to replicate. If these particles could be created by man, then perhaps solar power could become even more viable. Such wonderful inventions, however, would be put on the back burner as the strange structure reached a new stage in its growth. After months of budding and climbing, the cluster of pillars began to shudder and quake. Before any could realize what was happening, the whole cluster tore itself free from the earth and stomped off on trunk-like legs. This fascinating discovery was now on the move.

Now a mobile entity, the column cluster put itself on a southward path and began its unknown journey. Due to its solar fuel, many suggested that it was heading towards the equator, where it could get the most sunlight. It continued to belch these black clouds as it walked, like the smokestacks of some mobile factory. Its feedings became more frequent and the clouds grew larger and thicker. This was believed to be due to its mobile nature, as it now required extra energy for its movements. Now that it could move, the public at last fully accepted the hunk of rock as an alien organism. Up until then, the boring burping rock didn't exactly dazzle the world. This excitement and wonderment was quickly snuffed out when the walking cluster trampled a town that lay in its path. With no sign of thought or consideration, it just plowed through buildings and streets, crushing them like twigs. There was no malice in this act, as it was simply following a straight line, but this brought no comfort to those who lost their homes. It was then that the world began to realize that this entity could be a problem. Further validation was found when a passenger plane and all onboard met a fiery fate after flying downwind of the wandering cluster. An investigation discovered that the jet engines were destroyed when they sucked in drifting particles from the light-eating clouds, the metallic shards clogging the internal structures and shredding the turbines. This was quite concerning, especially since the plane had been miles away from the entity. Authorities were quick to create a no-fly zone around the being, but this area was forced to expand to ludicrous sizes as more and more planes fell from the sky. This entity was no longer considered a scientific wonder and instead became a military problem. Though it had gained numerous names through the news and social media, its true title was cemented when the military gave it the code name: Ebon Plume.

Due to the tragedies it had caused, the authorities were quick to figure out the range of its destructive clouds. The findings were quite worrisome. Though Ebon Plume ejected massive amounts of particles into the sky, its following inhale only pulled 60-75% of the cloud back in. Wind and its own movements caused a large quantity of these particles to drift away, out of range of its suction. Combine that with its multiple maws and continuous feeding, and you had tons of these particles being left in the sky. As time passed on, these particles would be spread about by wind currents and storm fronts, expanding the danger zone to encompass countries. Their strange structure and composition prevented these materials from breaking down, and the energy they absorbed would make them hot enough to ward off water and cut down on the chances of them becoming rainfall. With this, Ebon Plume was deemed a global threat and the might of the military moved to destroy it.

The fact that Ebon Plume had survived a meteoric impact in its early stages should have probably tipped many off on its hardiness. Bullets flattened themselves on its shell and the pitch black coloration didn't even let the charred residue of missiles and explosive shells remain as evidence of the attempt. Everything short of nuclear bombardment was launched at Ebon Plume, and the best it did was trip it up once or twice. With its many legs, pitfalls were easily walked over and its choking clouds kept fighter planes and bombers from getting their shot. As it shrugged off each attack, the governments of the world became more and more desperate to find its weakness. Their desire for a solution became even more frantic when scientists stumbled upon a horrifying scenario, one that made the current flight problems trivial.
In attempts to learn more about these absorbing clouds and how to empty the sky of these destructive particles, scientists came across a disturbing find. Their weather balloons and equipment were finding traces of these particles high up in the atmosphere, way beyond the supposed reach of Ebon Plume. While the entity could vomit these clouds with incredible force and range, its suction was not nearly as powerful. As wind, evaporation and other factors took hold of these particles, certain amounts of these materials were being pulled up high, far from the feeding range. Sense Ebon Plume could not reabsorb them, these particles were left to hang in the atmosphere, eating the light that come towards them. Though there was only minute amounts of these particles up there, there was no doubt that this number could grow over time. With no current way to get them down, their density would increase and the range would expand. Less light would begin to reach the Earth, blotting out the sunlight like the ash cloud of a volcanic eruption. However, volcanoes only erupt once in a very long time, while Ebon Plume pumped these clouds out nonstop. Current models predicted that over the course of a decade, the amount of sunlight reaching the surface would begin to fall noticeably, and the impacts would be catastrophic. No one had to be told what would happen if the world was slowly deprived of solar energy. Though it would take decades, if not centuries, for the Earth to fall under eternal    night, researchers pointed out that humanity would have already perished before such a thing happened.

While this potential scenario is a dire one, researchers have used it to develop an interesting theory. Though this idea so far has not given any insight on how to defeat the creature or disrupt its feeding habits, it has left many to wonder. Based on the worst case scenario, where Ebon Plume's clouds clog the upper atmosphere and choke out sunlight, researchers believe that the many doomed by this event would include Ebon Plume themselves. The entity obviously gains something by absorbing solar energy from its inhaled particles, thus meaning it thrives on sunlight. If these trapped particles continue to absorb sunlight and keep it from reaching lower levels of the atmosphere, then Ebon Plume's accessible clouds would be less potent and less filling. And since these upper particles are unreachable for the entity, it would be sealing itself from its own food source. No sunlight means that Ebon Plume would starve to death (or enter an equivalent state), which is probably not an outcome it wants. Since it is believed that Ebon Plume is a simple organism following its animalistic needs (with no evidence to the contrary), this end result would be considered a failure. No species intentionally seeks its own extinction, so that may suggest that Ebon Plume's arrival on this planet is a mistake. Its feeding behavior is clearly not suited for this environment, and the long term effects will mean that its kind cannot survive here. Perhaps this entity is a species that has landed somewhere it is not supposed to, like a big fish winding up in a small pond. Though it may feast on the unprepared native population, its superiority will ultimately cause its own doom, starving to death in a barren pool. If this is the case, then where was Ebon Plume supposed to actually go? Was its arrival here on Earth a mistake? And if this is the case, how can we send it back? These questions are important for the survival of both species...
---------------------------------------------------------

From one themed month to the next, now it is suddenly Kaijune! So here we go! This entity was based off of the name Ebon Fume, which is a super awesome (but unfortunately taken) name. This thing was produced from the idea that a creature that is kaiju-sized would be a huge problem even if it wasn't aggressive. Often kaiju are rampaging and violent beasts, smashing cities and causing trouble, but honestly I think any beast that size would give humanity a lot of issues.

I really like this guy. It's got a cool design and a pretty neat story.

As for how I'd deal with it...I'd probably try dumping inert materials inside it when it inhales. It would definitely be tricky, but filling it up with sand, boron, water, or ideally something like molten metal would cause it difficulty in its particle cycling. Trying to get some bunker-busters inside of it would also be something to try.

If that didn't work, then rods from God would be plan B, and plan C would be finding something to break the armor, be it chemically, through vibrational/frequency weapons, or something like a railgun.

Or it could just turn the world into a dark, barren hellscape of perpetual winter that rains metal flechettes.
