Description
With the Almoner called and her brood returned, the bearer will now have the blessing to continue forth. There is still much to be done, and one must move with haste, lest their courage fade away. With the proper tools and offerings, one can seek out the third Emissary, and bring forth the Herald of Infestation. The summoning of the Herald will be a rather grand event, but not by the bearer's choice. He shall arrive with great fanfare, his entrance signified with a flare of blinding light and a chorus of trumpets. Ascending from this cacophony will be the Herald, blaring his song and words from up high. There is no point in speaking to him until his entrance is completed, as the ceremony is too sacred to interrupt and his voice too loud to overpower. Only when he allows calm to return to the land will he finally address the bearer, but this interaction may be an odd one. If one can withstand his blaring voice, they will find that he does not speak for himself. Instead, he seems to speak for some unknown and unseen pantheon, referring to them as "The Vermin of Ichor." He appears to act as their messenger, though the bearer cannot see or hear those that command him. Through him will their desires and wants be voiced, and he makes sure the whole land knows their will. Every announcement is opened with a bellow from his instrument, and all end with "They have spoken." If one wishes to obtain his relic, then they must follow this odd ceremony. To even speak, one must wait until he is finished with his proclamations, as interruption is both rude and impossible. Any questions or answers must not be directly aimed at him, rather the bearer must humbly address The Vermin of Ichor in order for him to give their response. One must play the role of a simple servant to succeed in this mission, everything must be done formally, professionally and humbly. If one is proper in their worship and true in their prayer, then the Herald shall announce that The Vermin of Ichor have decided that they are worthy. Failure to win their favor shall result in the Herald denying the bearer their blessing and his permanent departure. With The Vermin of Ichor pleased, the Herald shall descend from the heavens and grant the bearer their relic.
The holy gift they receive from the Herald will be the Horn of Pediculosis, a vile instrumented carved from hair and skin. Rife with eggs and infested strands, the blaring song of this horn shall be the harbinger of the third plague. When the bearer plays this foul tune, it shall fill the wind with millions of hungering eggs. They shall boil forth from this instrument like a sickly dust storm, barreling across the land, seeding every man and beast that is caught in their path. Once fallen upon the earth or flesh, the eggs will instantly hatch, and a swarm of lice will be unleashed upon the populace. None shall be spared from their presence, and those overtaken by their mass will face the maddening itch of their infestation. Those that are bitten will find no relief from balms or ointments, as nothing will bring an end to the wretched itching. No matter how hard they scratch, even when their skin tears and bleeds, the horrible sensation will not cease. The only way it can end is when the bearer calls out to the heavens once again, unleashing a tune that will turn these foul creatures to dust. This song should always be at the ready, as this plague grows stronger with each passing hour. If left unchecked, the lice will grow a disease within their bodies and soon spread it to their tortured hosts. Fevers and infections will soon sprout up in the agonized populace, and these illnesses are not controlled by the horn. They will spread to whoever they can, regardless of any protections or alignments. When the tune is played to destroy the vermin, these lingering sicknesses will still live on. If the bearer is not careful, they may unintentionally unleash another plague, one that they cannot control.
With the final song of the infested horn, the third plague shall come to an end, but this same tune shall be the herald of what comes after...
