Ok, as you requested, a bit of a critique.
I can't believe you did this in a free art program, that's friggin awesome and makes me feel like a loser XD Dude, this technological painting stuff is another language to me... anyways, the little monster eel looks really great, I really like the color and glowing eyes.
Lighting wise, it seems that your light source is basically above, so I would think that the brightest part of the eel's skin would be at the top. However, light does really crazy things underwater so I simply could not be sure without doing some Google-fu and looking for underwater creatures lit with only natural lighting. You might want to see what you find in underwater pictures with only sunlight illuminating the creatures and see what it does.
I do know for a fact that the teeth are much too white; they'd look much darker in that lighting, unless they had some funky glow of their own. Then you'd need to show that they were glowing with their own light. But yea, if normal teeth, a few shades darker all around.
Composition-wise, it's really bottom-heavy; you should either spread the monster-eel around the picture so his lengthy body leads you around the composition, or have something else to offset all the stuff on the bottom (like the bottom of a fishing boat, with a line leading down in the sea and to the eel). Also, avoid elements "barely touching the border", like the eel's mouth. I forgot what my AP teacher said about that, but it doesn't look, well, right, especially for the main character of the drawing. Elements leading off the frame are fine of course, but barely touching are like, tense. You can add a good half inch to an inch there.
Overall a cool picture. I wish I could do digital stuff I'll teach myself one day XD

Wow, thanks so much for this!! it really helps!
I see what you mean about the lighting- hadn't really considered the teeth-lighting.
thanks for the tips on composition, I didn't know about the "barely touching border" rule. It makes sense though. I don't know about a lot of these composition-rules because I've never taken a serious art class haha... except for the crappy school ones I had to take... this critique stuff really helps.
heehee Thank you so much!!

I learned the touching art border from my AP teacher who, while rather intimidating, really knew her composition stuff. I totally recommend to take art classes while in school- while there is a whole group of artists who are strictly against it, I think learning from others in a class setting is helpful, just so long as you don't compromise your own style for theirs (or just do it for their assignments ). I had an art teacher who said absolutely no blending with a tool like a blending stick or tissue for shading. I listened to her for that class, and then ignored it everywhere else and ever since

I'd like to, but most of the art classes are by really boring teachers who don't really teach composition or anything, they just tell you to paint a flower or make a collage or stuff... they also tell me not to blend at all... haha

Hahah, yea, wait until college In the meanwhile, you can do your own research online, there are so many tutorials here on dA and things you can find through Google that should be of some help.
