Description
F-16A-1-CF, 78-0019 assigned to the 466th TFS, 419th TFW, based at Hill AFB and seen transient just after a summer shower at Luke AFB in August 1987.This view is slightly higher in the frame than this shot [link] in arder to get a 'Artsy-Craftsy' reflection effect of the entire jet.
I was happy to find this in a box this week, I forgot I took this view.

Very nice. The unusual paint job on the extra fuel is nice.

That is actually an MXU-648 travel pod. It is used to carry the pilots baggage and whatnot on cross country flights.

I crewed them from 1982 through 2000. I have photographed a bunch of them over the years, please feel free to browse around my site! [link] are a few of them...

No sir. It is a T-38A from Laughlin AFB.

That makes more sense, however the T-38A is the trainer version of the F-5A Freedom Fighter.

Oddly enough the N-156T (T-38A) was developed and fielded before the N-156F (F-5A). If you browse around my site, I have posted bunches of F-5 [link] , [link] and T-38 [link] pics!

I know right! The T-38 was designed and flown before the F-5...it's crazy!

I really liked seeing both jets. They were pretty common to see in the 1980s and 1990s.

The F-5 is surely badass, and that means that the T-38 is too. I saw an F-5 (either B or F) at an airshow almost three years ago.

The F-5s are pretty scarce anymore...

True, I thought it was really cool to see one in person and talk to the pilot.

Wow, beautiful shot! Really stunning! What kind of missle is that and why is it orange?

Glad you like the shot! The missile is a captive carry AIM-9P. It has a live G&C that allows the pilot to target and 'lock-on' to other aircraft for practice air to air combat training. It is orange to enhance visibility for safety as well as to give some 'dissimilar' appearance to the aircraft in an ACM environment.
