Here's the result of this week's journal assignment. For those of you that missed it the last time around, basically here at Uni every week we get a list of artists that we have to research, and then make a journal page about.Mediums used were pencils, watercolors and acrylics, but mainly acrylics. They don't actually teach us how to use any mediums on the course, they basically just give us the assignment and we're free to do whatever. So there's definitely some trial and error in here (cough third one cough), but I had fun and I think I'll keep painting with acrylics, see where it takes me.
Anyway, artists, from left to right: Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, Seurat and Signac.

This is such a fantastic assignment. I can only imagine the sense of accomplishment after it's all completed. It's really indulgent just to see them scanned in like this.

I like the one on the far left the best. the man's face and jacket are very clearly defined. I like how the trees are far away, and it looks like the man is going some place, not just standing there.

if you can get your hands on some oils, having the experience of acrylic helps out alot if your intrested in another medium

Yeah, oils are terribly expensive though. And plus, if I were to use oils, I'd really want to paint on a canvas, not some A5 piece of paper, that's the main reason why I haven't used them yet.

well, something my art teacher is teaching us at the moment is the wonders of oils on paper. thought you need some goach(ehh I wasent paying attention so that might be wrong) and heavy grade paper, few coats and its like canvas, and you can pre make cool textures. Were doing it now so I dont know how wonderful it is at the moment but the idea seems cool

I know you don't feel quite as comfortable with traditional as you do digital but you are definitely closing any gap you may have between the two. It's been great to see how you embrace the styles of painting rather than just fitting all of the entries into a particular style. Your eye for that is obviously on the mark. You can definitely see the "Fabian" in the art though and that's wonderful. Imitation may be the sincerest flattery but it's refreshing to the hybrid of your style and the old masters. I hope you are earning positive marks for your entries. They are exciting to see in my inbox!

Monet ain't in there cause he wasn't on the list of artists we had to research. He's mildly famous though, I have a feeling he will pop up in said list eventually.
And I think Renoir's isn't the only one that's off, haha (although that one's by far the worst in my opinion). Thanks for the comment!

LOL, oh they gave u a list of 'em to do on then, now i get... nah, Renoir's mustache there looks like he did it himself even , i think its jst his face, its too shiny, 'haps too much white was applied r something but the others look superb... ah no problem, just dropping a friendly crit. 'z all
