Description A Quetzacoatl I created especially for a Dragon RP I joined. Her name is Xochitl Necahual which means Flower Left Behind in Nahautl (ancient South/Central American language). I love the background and the parrots.

Love the design and background, nice work.
And hooray, parrots! *I'm both a dragon and parrot fanatic, so this is great* I see a Hyacinth, Catalina?, and Green-winged Macaw, also Double Yellow Headed Amazon.

nice drawing, but i must say u have several errors
1 - nahuatl is not a south american language, It is a native north or central american language, official language of the ancient aztec empire and one of the indigenous languages recognized by the mexican constitution for educational purposes.
2 - quetzalcoatl is not a dragon, he is a god. he is sometimes described as a feathered snake, but this is only because of a mistake in the translation of his name. the word coatl means snake in nahuatl, but also means twin. quetzalcoatl is tezcatlipoca's twin, oposing cardinal direction and force ...though he is sometimes represented with or by a snake.
3 - this is not really a mistake, but i think it would be a little bit wierd to find him in the amazon...

This is only a fantasy painting, it was never meant to be historically or mythologically accurate. In fact, that character is female.

Quite alright, in fact your comment made me reconsider the location of an Aztecan mythology-based comic I'll be writing this summer. I'd rather not propagate misinformation about the Aztecs or Mayan cultures (these stories will be borrowing from those and other cultures from the Central American region) in the interest of keeping an Amazon setting, especially when there's rainforest and other interesting terrain in the Aztec's native location.

hey, that's a nice idea! actually quetzalcoatl has a very weird story. quetzalcoatl (or tlahuizcalpantecuhtli) is an aztec god associated with ehecatl as a divine wind and according to the legends about him, he was also a legendary toltec king of the great city of tollan or teotihuacan, near tenochtitlan, now known as mexico city... tenochtitlan was built by the aztecs that were inspired by the greatness of teotihuacan when they found its ruins (teotihuacan was mysteriously abandoned centuries before the aztecs found it). he was a god to the toltec and/or the chichimeca people and to the mayans. the word for quetzalcoatl in mayan language is "kukulkan" and was more of a thunder god, yet almost the same as the aztec version. the mayans say he is in part responsible for creation. mayan territories extended through the yucatan peninsula and the caribbean coast, they were the only ones that had rainforests in them, though the aztecs did dominate some territories that went as far as nicaragua.
according to the aztecs, he is son of ometeotl (ometecuhtli and/or omecihuatl), the god/goddess of duality and father/mother of everything; he is twin of the black tezcatlipoca (quetlzalcoatl is also known as white tezcatlipoca), brother of huitzilopochtli (sun, god of war, manifestates as an eagle, yes, its the eagle on the mexican flag) and coyolxauhqui (goddess of the moon, leader of the huitznauna, dismembered by her brother huitzilopochtli after leading the 400 huitznauna to kill the coatlicue ). all 4 brothers represent the four cardinal directions.
If u wanna know more about quetzalcoatl and his mysterious history, u can check wikipedia (i didn't check it, but i've heard the spanish version is a good source), i think this could be a nice framework for ur comic .

My research into the subject was quite fascinating, and I found out many of the stuff you've mentioned. I even have the four tezcatlipocas featured in my comic, plus Mayauel acting as the main character. She had only a small part in Aztecan mythos, but it was fascinating.

I love this, it's full of such lush colours, like something from a childrens book. I can almost hear the birds and smell the tropical forest!

This reminds me of my character, Khaeyi, who is a Draco Americanus Incognito. (Secret American Dragon). Khaeyi, in my weird world means 'Of the rainforest'. This is exactly the place you'd expect to find her in! But she doesn't have feathers..

This is really nice. I love the detail and the colors. Has a very tropical feel, and the Dragon seems to fit right in, like you'd expect to see it there amongst a group of parrots while walking through the forest. Very nice Dragon character design.
