No, I did not break any laws to get this angle, nor did I significantly risk life and/or limb. I simply got creative.
The east abutment of this trestle sit over the banks of Big Creek in such a way as to allow you to stand with your eyes at grade-level off to the side of the track. So, I simply just stuck the camera through a gap in the side of the structure, lined up my shot ahead of time, and hoped it came out. An eastbound UP Colorado coal drag led by AC4400CW #7120 pulls up off the Hays Siding and across Big Creek on the Sharon Springs sub.

Oh they run these things at all times of the day, regardless of scheduling. It's usually pretty intermittent on this line, so it'd have to be on a night when it's A)Not balls cold outside, and B)when I have the time to kill.
