Okay, I'm going back now to continue Maladyne's story arc in Web of Betrayal.

Then the surface against her palm withdraws into itself, a lake of empty space filled from surface to depth in crystal clear water, assuming another space with smooth, flat boundaries, hard angles, dizzying height, and a distant sphere of light ringed in ornate, decorative limbs.

Mistress, a deep voice echoes through the new space, I hear your call. Speak your will to me.

“I must confer with my forebears,” Maladyne speaks aloud, barely aware of the walking corpse taking a final step and halting at her flank.

You address me from elsewhere, the Guardian’s voice notes.

“From my mirror,” Maladyne responds. “I am sequestered beneath the city, far away from my home. Loose your venom to the tower floor that I may have contact.”

As you command, Mistress. A moment later a trio of droplets strikes the polished floor at the tower’s base, unseen in the gloom but heard as three distinct taps that echo in the silence. Maladyne waits as the liquid’s essence is transferred to the mirror’s eye, from one polished surface to another linked by a channel of magic.
