The Hunger Games is based on 2 stories written by Stephen King about 20 years ago. Mr. King himself said so after he read them.

It says on a Q and A on the back of The Hunger Games that she got the idea from flipping through TV channels and mixing the Iraq war on the news ands some reality show.
Maybe they're just really similar.
One of my favourite songs reminds me so much of the Hunger Games and I'm pretty sure the band didn't mean to base it on the book. Here it is [link]

I thought she got the idea from watching reality tv and soldiers on the news? I don't usually read and haven't in ages but i think the huger games trilogy was definatly worth it
