Description
He's finally done! I've been working on this little lad for almost a month now off and on. Originally I'd hoped to make a mold for him but I was defeated by uncooperative plaster, that refused to work the way I wanted it to. So, he is the only one of his kind. He's sculpted in Polymer clay and painted with acrylics, with an over finish of gloss andmatte medium to seal him. He's about 6 inches long and 3inches high, and these photographs unfortunately just don't do justice to some of his detail.Related content

Wicked cute! I have been thinking about making a mold for some of my in progress sculpts but it seems to be some sort of secret trade that must be taught in person!

very nice piece!
saw it on furbid
I sell sculptures myself every once in a while on furbid, personally I would have said more something above 100$, 130 or so on furbid( the real artprice would be atleast 250).
maybe try to get some closeup pics, because there's definitly alot of detail work in there. I can see your Mpena inspiration
lovely piece I sure hope you will feed us with more

Thanks! I do love Pena's work, and I hope to be a rival in the sculpture business someday. *nod* I do tend to price things low, mostly because once they're done I start seeing the million and one flaws --real and imagined--*G*, and I can't wait to get rid of them *L*. But, I'd rather see him go to a home that loves him then make a lot of money *G*.

I just realize that you had 20 hrs work on him. I know its not usual to make a price/time comparison but I sold "Babe" for 200 and he took me 4 hours.
I'd definitly set that price higher. or as xian said, give him to a show, atleast there he can get a few more views and is presented in an art-worthy way
did you apply for DC? you could make tons of money there I never was there but from what I see in your gallery and what I see that was there most definitly

that pose is fantastic! I collect fantasy critters, and I thinkthat's the first time I have seen that pose on a dragon. I wouldn't set your price at less than $150. not for that type of work, especially when he's a one time only peice.

Gorgeous dragon!
Don't sell on Furbid. You may not get much for him. Instead, enter him at a Convention art show. AnthroCon, FurtherConfusion, DragonCon, WorldCon...something. You'll get more money for him.
Or...if you DO want to sell him on Furbid, set a reserve. Start the bidding at like, $50-$80, but set the reserve at whatever you want to REALLY get...ie, $300 or so. This way, someone who REALLY wants it will bid, lose, contact you, then pay the reserve. And if someone isn't willing to pay what you want, then you aren't obligated to let it go for less.

Seriously, though, that dragon is just plain awesome and if I actually did have the money, I'd buy him off of you.

What a sweet little thing! =3 The detail is just fantastic...
I agree, though, I wouldn't let him go for anything less than $90-100.

Absolutely gorgeous. Question -- what brand of clay do you use?
Let's just say I've had bad experiences with sculpey when baking.

Thanks!
I use Super Sculpy. It comes in a green box. I don't have too much trouble with it so long as I don't try to to anything standing *G*. It does tend to get soft while it's in the oven.

Yeah... I use a mix of regular and super and it still cracks... I think it's just me, though... I've never heard anyone else compaining about cracking from mixing the two -_-;
