Description
After I posted my coloring tutorial/process fav.me/dcgdrk3 , some of the conversations I had about it inspired me to try a little something new. My way of drawing has always been rather simplistic and utilitarian, to me--just enough to "get by" to show the picture I wanted to show, tell the story I wanted to tell. I've always wanted a bit more "crispness" and "shine" to my work, the way so many pictures I admire here are. I think the most important element for that is probably sharp lineart, which I've always opted out of, using my plain sketch lines themselves instead. Part of this has been because I don't have a tablet to work with, only a mouse--I sketch on physical paper and then scan it. Many, many years ago, I briefly tried to draw over those sketch lines with the mouse, but the results disappointed me. fav.me/d64jhjg I recently saw some advice about enlarging your sketches to about 400%, drawing over them with a huge, thick brush, and then shrinking this new lineart back, though. Although I'm pretty sure this advice post was still aimed at tablet users, I thought it couldn't hurt to try it using my old method with the mouse, anyway. So, I thought I'd make a couple of new pictures to test it. Let me know what you guys think (seriously, don't hold back, if you think I should change something about this lineart [and/or go back to the old], let me know)! After this, I may try to find ways to add more "oomph" to my coloring methods as well (I'm particularly interested in adding starker shines and more environmental palettes), but for now, the only real change is the lineart--baby steps! This second one is a Sonic fanart of Big and Cream. Cream, as some of you may know, is a little air/flying-element/type/whatever bunny who uses her ears to fly, just like Tails uses his twin tails to do so. Well, I thought it would be cute for Cream to try to teach her buddy Big how to fly too. He's got the long ears, after all... but I think she's forgetting he's just a tiiiiiiiiny bit heavier than her!

I love that youβre experimenting with your art in ways to make it how you want.
The results look great.Β Also, that zoom/shrink does work with line art and helps it look clearer/crisp.Β

Thanks so much, my friend!! I'm still very shakey in this new style, and I look up to your work so much, so it means a lot.

A lot of people don't like Big...
But I'm not one of them. I think he's a lovable, cuddly kitty cat. X3

That's perfectly fine, I wasn't a big fan of Sonic for many years either! It just sort of "happened" for me, recently, and I'm not sure why it suddenly clicked--I guess it was just the right thing at the right time. (And I still love Pokemon and Mario too, don't worry! ) Anyways, thank you so much!

Thank you so much, Mint! And I remember you mentioned playing a Sonic game before, so I wondered, were these two characters (Big the purple cat and Cream the little flying bunny) in it? Just curious!

You are welcome!
I remember I played it on Sony Play Station, but I am afraid I don't remember anyone except Sonic I remember that it was fun (and difficult too, poor Sonic kept falling off bridges because of my insufficient skills "O_o and I liked how his legs looked almost like a wheel sometimes when he was running really quickly. But I forgot the other characters who were there I should check whether I still have the game Β

Awww, it's okay, Sonic has fallen off a lot of bridges already as I've played him too! It takes a lot of practice, and even then, sometimes our controls will slip. That's what makes video games challenging, after all!
I hope you have fun with it if you still have your game! And yeah, it's kind of cute how his little legs make a wheel/fan/hurricane/etc. shape when he runs so fast in a blur.

Video games are a real challenge sometimes And poor Sonic has to endure all the falls Β
Thank you! It has benn quite a while since I played it, so I am not sure if I still have the game But I'll look for it at home

Thanks so much, Nikki! I've been so encouraged by the positive response to my new lineart style. And I'm so happy you like the scene of Big and Cream itself!
I honestly was a little less satisfied with how Big's face turned out than I was with Cream's, but hearing you say that makes me feel better and like it more.

Thank you so much! I felt this was the weaker of the two new pieces I made with this new style, so if you still really like this one too, it means a lot! I will indeed continue using this line technique!
