A li'l Avatar pic for autumn, since I promised (who loves the Earth Kingdom culture) that the next one I made would have Iroh and Chiko in their Earth clothes. I wasn't quite sure what kind of scene to draw, though, of them in the "Little Ba-Sing-Se" neighborhood I imagine them living in within the Fire Nation Capital, in my AU. Well, when my mother and I were walking at the local park, I smelled marshmallows cooking at somebody's campsite, and suddenly remembered a lot of pictures I'd seen over the years, of cute cartoon dragons cooking marshmallows on their flames. Seems to be a common theme. So then I thought... why not this "Dragon?"

(Does the Avatar world even have marshmallows? I guess they do now!)

I also decided to experiment a little with textures, trying to make this look like a traditional ukiyo-e painting or somesuch. (Not in the drawing style, which is still my normal one, but in the "inking" and background, I mean.) I also got a book of Chinese calligraphy for my birthday, and tried to write the character for "peace" over there in the corner (I hope I didn't butcher it too badly ). I thought it was appropriate for this moment--instead of using his flames to wage war against the Earth Kingdom, now Iroh uses them to toast marshmallows for the Earth children.
