Description Update, following windows UI guidelines
Dont mind the typos

Many of you notebook owners probably noticed that the current mobility center design is awful, it looks unfinished. So i decided to mock up my own vision of how it should look like instead of this: [link]

If you support the idea of redesigning WMC, vote it up here: [link]

Not me, from all unfinished programs in windows, this is the most unfinished one. Lazy programmers...

Heh I could try and make it real but... i wont add any HP stuff on it because then the sony, lenovo ets users will want stuff from their mobility center too and stuff like this so i could make it one for all or something like it dunno

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to tonev [2009-07-12 12:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Not worth it, i really doubt you could make it the way i see it. Plus it would be useless since 99.999% of all windows users would never try it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tonev In reply to fediaFedia [2009-07-12 13:58:59 +0000 UTC]

well i can make it the way you see it and why do you think that 99.999% of all the windows users would never try it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to tonev [2009-07-12 15:13:51 +0000 UTC]

So can you add a live semi transparent battery indicator to the background of the panel? Add drag and drop, resizing with support of scaling of items, system level configuration awareness? Great, can't wait till you make it. It's not all eyecandy you know, anyone can put some cheap controls on a useless glass window.
Now for 99.999%, you do realise there are hundreds of millions of vista/seven users, I think my prognoses is even too generous.

tonev In reply to fediaFedia [2009-07-12 19:03:42 +0000 UTC]

well i can add the stuff in the screenshot exept the HP stuff cuz i don't know what variables and dlls and other resources that is using. Oh and i can't test the HP stuff because i don't have HP laptop for the test so no luck only basic stuff

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to tonev [2009-07-12 21:31:21 +0000 UTC]

ok, make at least a very basic version, make sure it loads fast too.

webtrance [2009-07-12 02:54:41 +0000 UTC]

It's like MS doesn't care...even using win98 icons in vista and probably win7 too. This is the way the mobility center should look. Good job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to webtrance [2009-07-12 12:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, and yeah, whoever works on windows leave sooo many unfinished details, hell, even a average enthusiast can fix a lot of those win95 icons with reshack.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

webtrance In reply to fediaFedia [2009-07-12 19:50:24 +0000 UTC]

yeah, no doubt. It's unprofessional to not tweak all the graphics before releasing an OS if you ask me.

Your right. Vista's is bad. My Lenovo is a little better then your example. Your mock up looks great. Very Aeroish.

fediaFedia In reply to TimsCreations [2009-07-11 19:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Vista isn't bad, just there are some unfinished programs there.

Yeah I see the problem. It's all glass except for all the options. It looks ridiculous. I hope it's finished for Windows 7 RTM.

MaskedJudas [2009-07-11 18:31:18 +0000 UTC]

Pretty nice but you should make the title smaller so that it really looks like an usual title bar and I guess the HP stuff should be smaller as well and in the right bottom corner (if there isn't any box to fill the place out).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to MaskedJudas [2009-07-11 18:41:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah maybe 2 pixels smaller

coreper [2009-07-11 18:22:05 +0000 UTC]

looks amazing!
this would be very nice on my notebook, if i needed it, that is
i have an Acer notebook, using the Acer Empowering software, including a little Mobility Energy Plan Center, where you can set all these how you like them
so no need for this to be made, if you have an Acer
i really like the idea though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to coreper [2009-07-11 18:29:28 +0000 UTC]

HP also has it's own software to regulate such stuff, but i'd prefer the windows version if it didnt look so horrid.

salmanarif [2009-07-11 18:21:28 +0000 UTC]

Nice to see the hideously displaced icons fixed in this... I have an hp and would like the Mobility Center to look better (though I just use it to take a peek at my battery percentage using +X)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fediaFedia In reply to salmanarif [2009-07-11 18:32:01 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure you can have a battery icon in the tray, and hovering it should display a tooltip with percentage. In fact, WMC is next to useless on HP notebooks, brightness and volume can be changed from the keyboard etc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

salmanarif In reply to fediaFedia [2009-07-11 18:33:40 +0000 UTC]

I only use it because I have hidden the taskbar so I can use ObjectBar and also to prevent it from popping up whenever I roll over my dock icons...
