Hey, that's not bad at all. Really seems to have that radiant internal light happening. I'd advise adding a dark background (perhaps some dark rocks) onto which the red light can be bouncing off of, to add to the effect of lava?

Okay, sane now.
I have been considering it, but the fact is I'm utterly hopeless with backgrounds, still, and it'd likely ruin the piece. I'll probably submit it with just the magma man finished, and might work further on trying to put together a passable background afterwards. Whilst I'm likely to finish the man, I'm not likely to get the background done to satisfaction any time soon.

Still it might sound difficult, but it needn't be.
Simply put a black (bottom) to grey(top) gradient in a layer under the layer with the man; making the area below quite dark. Then begin sketching some faint red shapes (simulating the rock flat surfaces that would catch the red light). As you do this, let your eye guide you, and let your imagination really work there. :3
It may sound confusing. But challenging yourself is part of the work. :3
This is a good reference for the rocks. You don't have to copy them exactly, but they will help guide your artistic improvisation. :3

Then I'll give it a go. My imagination and sense of things tends to do pretty well. It's just my ability to draw what I'm thinking of that falls flat.
Funny how I'm decent at things like this and goblins, but still tend to fail horribly with humans. Probably says something about me.
