Gender: Stallion
Breed: Sporthorse (Dutch Warmblood x American Paint Horse x Trakenher)
Age: newborn 8D
Height: Projected 15.3hh
Color: Black sabino - will grey out to iron grey
Markings: Sabino, stockings rf, rh, lh, white leg lf, stripe and connected white muzzle
Passable traits: Colour, temperament
Discipline: 3 day eventing
Genes: EE/aa/Gg/nSb
Personality: Thief is a colt. In a big way. He's full of energy, full of curiousity and full of confidence. If there's something going on anywhere in the stables, yard, arena or paddock he wants to get his nose into it, even if that means tearing away from mum at full speed. He likes company, and has taken a real shine to Rockstar, who he's currently pastured with. Even more than her, he's a showoff, but if showing off doesn't work he'll simply start to bother you. He can get nippy if he feels he's being ignored, but luckily he gets bored fairly easily so will often just run off somewhere else before that actually happens!
Other: Will have greyed to iron grey sabino by age 4, but will not get lighter than this.

Jenny, of course, had gone into labour in the middle of the night. What else could you expect? The stables' first birth and it was while Charlie was across the country visiting his parents, Marion was asleep and the only person up and about was Jemima, the new trainer/rider/stablehand/dogsbody they'd just hired. To make matters worse she'd never been around a pregnant horse before, let alone one that was about to pop.
"Marion! Marion you've got to get up!"
"Huh? I've only just gone to bed.."
"JENNY'S HAVING HER BABY!"
"But. What. Not for another week I thought?"
Having a seventeen year old bouncing around your bedroom when you've only just fallen asleep doesn't make for particularly quick thinking.
"Oh. Crap!"
Marion had finally grasped what was going on, and leaping from bead, grabbing her dressing down and thrusting her feet into some slippers she sprinted down to the stables after the girl. It was some sort of a miracle she'd grabbed her phone as she ran, the one in the stable still hadn't been connected up and what if they needed the vet?

As it turned out, by the time they'd both got back down the the stable, Jenny was standing up and cleaning something small and dark, looking for all the world as though she did this every day.
"Oh! Oh what is it, Marion?" Jemima gasped, staring stupefyed at the foal, who as he lifted his head they could see was a paint just like his father.
"It'll be easier to tell when its stood up," the woman replied, smiling with relief, and kind of disappointment that they'd actually missed it. "I'd best call Tom anyway to come and check they're both alright," she said after a pause while they both watched mother and baby in silence.
While she was on the phone the little horse began to try to stand up. It only took him four attempts, and at that point it was clear that it was a him.
Charlie was delighted when Marion told him - in the morning of course, when the newly named Thief was already bounding around in the paddock, pestering Rockstar for attention whenever his mother's wasn't quite enough. Jenny was coping surprisingly well with such a bundle of insanity. Who'd have thought it of such a methodical mare to go into labour a week early, in the middle of the night, and then have the baby without telling anybody?
