I lied down in the soft grass, enjoying the sunshine and the warm Slinerian breeze happily while I waited to be dispatched by the rancher. My tail was stuck on a lepto trap which little me had stumbled into that morning.

An hour later, the new rancher drove up in her pickup, carrying her rifle in the crook of an arm. She looked so pleased to have caught me. I love it when they grin victoriously and I get to snicker back. After all, I am a professional at what I do.

''Well, look what we have here,''the rancher said. ''A little lady leptolapsus! Just wasn't your day, today, was it.''

She proceeded to list several accusations against me for causing mayhem on her ranch, including some I completely forgot about, but was delightfully reminded of. Everything from getting into the chicken coop (a classic for leptos) to putting red paint paw prints on the inside of the green house, chasing cows to make cottage cheese, and digging crop circles in her fields. Even though I hadn't dug the crop circles.

''Too bad you got too crafty there, little brainiac,'' said the rancher. ''Cause I'm afraid the next thing going through that little noggin of yours is a bullet.''

She cocked her rifle and pointed the muzzle in my face. Obviously, she didn't know who I was, and had no idea that shooting me would land her a 17 million dollar fine and social exile forever. And seeing as I didn't want to be a headless lizard either, I had to think fast!
