Description A commission for

I love Caitlin.

Books and perspective not so much. I was there, spending ages and ages and then realised that no one who ever saw this would care so I just did the shelves superquick.

Done on bristol board with unipen fineliners, warm and gray copics, and colorized in photoshop.

I just love the book. All of science is in there. A single book contains all of it.

You wish! It's volume 13! Who knows how many more volumes there are!

really love ur face work and body language. Like how seasoned artist can create intentions through the visual medium. The quizzical look on her face along with the mountainous volume of books that are threatening to overtake her really shows that shes overloaded on information

Its amusing seeing how shear brawn cant conquer everything. ^^

Such a cute muscle girl...then again Fairchild always showed nerdiness with her power.

Could be worse, I suppose.

At a panel at the comic convention I just got back from this week, Steve Dillon said the worst background to do as a comic book penciler was a roller coaster. And the character he dreaded drawing the most was Spider-Man in the classic costume, due to all the tiny little webs that had to line up. He said if Marvel ever assigned him as a regular artist on a Spider-Man title, he'd hire a young artist as a "web-slave" to do that little detail.

So, it could be worse than books... It could be Spider-Man on a roller coaster.

PAGE-FACE!

Page-Face vs. Caitlin Fairchild!

with the red-headed powerhouse be able to stop this library-themed villain, or will her love of reading get the better of her?

"I can't hit him. He's made of books. I love books!"

This is already better than 98% of Gen13 comics.

For a sketch, the shelves are perfectly fine. Caitlin herself looks not so much sketchy as fully-rendered! Which is just fine with me!

Love her glasses, and the casual load of books she's carrying. I guess Caitlin makes the grade as a nerd girl. Thanks so much for the sketch!

SCIENCE! now that's a hefty bulk of study material (and volume 13 no less... clever). very cute!

Hefty or not, she can cope with both the liftin' and the readin'!

And it's always going to be volume 13...

KirbySnacks [2010-06-10 12:11:35 +0000 UTC]

May I ask you why you always add an exclamation mark to your drawings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fettcom In reply to KirbySnacks [2010-06-10 12:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Sure. It's my 'signature'. 15 years ago I was working out how to sign my work and I looked at my favourite artists and signed it as "AH!" and used "WAR!" (both Gen13 artists which tells you a lot about my inspirations), and even Joe Madureira signed as "MAD!". So there was this whole "!" mark thing. So I removed the name and just left the exclamation mark, which got slightly more stylized over the years, and I kinda like just putting the exclamation mark in there both as signature and as pseudo-speech bubble.

Is it offputting?

KirbySnacks In reply to Fettcom [2010-06-10 17:31:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I understand. I kinda like it as a pseudo-speech bubble. Thanks for answering.

Oh, no, it's not offputting. Well, maybe sometimes, but it's no big deal. I'm okay with it.

You thought wrong boy! I care about the books and backgrounds and I am not impressed. ;(

On a positive note it's nice to see some color making it's way into at least one of these.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fettcom In reply to DanNauenburg [2010-06-10 12:41:07 +0000 UTC]

NOTHING'S EVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU!!!!!

I wanted the backgrounds to be 'soft focus' so as not to detract from Caitlin, so there's very little contrast and shape, and part of the reason is that the copic marker nibs are a little too thick for finelining. I've ordered some super fine nibs for the markers which should hopefully rectify that, and I might try looking for greyscale fineliners.

Thanks about the colour.

I see a very nice effect in the pic due to the color and blurrines of the shelves and the contrast of the character. Sorta looks like there's a white glowy light in the background.
Very good work man!
