Since one had to sit or kneel while firing it, one became a target for snipers.

Indeed they were, unless they had the gun in a bunker or something. Probably won't make much difference anyway wouldn't it?

Definitely a nice weapon, but I'm more partial to the Maxim.

I'm more of a MG 42 34 person

Given that the MG-34 was invented a full forty-five years later than the maxim, it stands to reason that it would be the superior weapon. Still, the maxim machine gun was one of the defining features of the First World War.

True but you'd be needing several men to carry it

Yes, but you'd need Heinrich Vollmer to invent the MG34, and he was too busy building maxims to bother with inventing a new machine gun during WWI.

Now I'm imagining that if the MG 34 was made 20 years earlier

It was one of the first ever machine gun designs, so of course it wasn't going to be perfect. I think this is before someone discovered the art of firing in short bursts to avoid overheating the barrel.

Especially when you have to carry it across the battlefield

And it needs several soldiers to operate it.

Very good gun exept for the fact that it needed 7 people to operate and Soviet maxim was better

You're right, at least with the Soviet maxim you could wheel it along but in my opinion the MG34 and 42 go above both of them

at least with the 34 and 42 you could operate on your own

And I've heard that the Vickers was powerful enough to rip apart buildings

They were indeed powerful enough to rip buildings apart. It's amazing how Vickers machine guns were used by infantries, and mounted on airplanes and other vehicles.
