looks like insectoid and a bit mechanical. Like every Synth in the game.

Advisors are grubs.

Gunships are bugs.

Striders are spiders.

We actually haven't seen alien infantry in the game but this is possible that their foot soldiers are also insects.

Maybe Combine race is a civilisation based on insects who developed into sentinent beings instead of mammals because of enother way of natural evolution.
