My entry for *oukamiyoukai45 s contest, featuring her shapeshifter Fable. Look here [link] for more information and make sure to visit her gallery, if you like awesome creature designs.
This was the third attempt of drawing him, in the beginning I wanted to make him a manticore, but I really didn´t like how the sketches turned out. Then I ended up making him a sphinx, which is kind of ironic, and had to struggle with human anatomy. Why do humans have to be so damn hard to draw? The hand alone nearly cost me a mental breakdown. I don´t even want to start ranting about the skin shading. Ugh. And yes, the bg is a texture I shamelessly borrowed from *glassthroughskin . Don´t kill me.;A;
Conclusion: I really have to practice drawing humans. And the new shading style I used on the lions half of the body. Because I like it.

I´m really not used to drawing humans, so there are some mistakes. And the other entries are not bad, either. Everyone did their best. I´m glad I´m not the one who has to decide for a winner.^^'

Meeeh. Ich kann draufgucken, solange ich will. Bis auf den etwas langen Hals sehe ich einfach keine Fehler. Dafür zeichne ich Menschen wohl zu selten.:/

ich wusste ich habe mich nicht klar genung ausgedrückt
also ich meine das so
da wo normalerweise der Kopf des Greifes anfängt
beginnt ja der rücken des jungen Mannes
und das is anatomisch gesehen nicht möglich
und darum empfinde ich es als einen anatomische graus
das sieht so abnormal aus
ich hoffe ich habs jetzt besser erklärt ^^

OmfG, so genial <3 Hart! Die Perspektive, die Colo, diese Flügel und Federn, die Anatomie, einfach toll *_*
Die Form passt zu ihm, auch wenn der menschliche Anteil streckenweise etwas aua ist, aber hast du ja selbst auch gesagt XD Die Unterarme beziehungsweise am Ellenbogen, vorne gut sichtbar, der Knick ist ziemlich krass. Also aua krass ^^° Ich meine, man sieht am Rücken/Rumpf schon, dass du ihn wahrscheinlich sehr dünn machen wolltest, aber das ist doch etwas sehr hart. Okay, vielleicht ist es ja gewollt, also lasse ich das mal so stehen
Die Ansicht von oben finde ich so super <3 Vor allem die Kruppe und Beinhaltung hinten, einfach gelungen, richtig schön! Sowas macht Spaß beim Ansehen (gibt genug, wo es einem selbst wehtut XD). Ich mag deine Anatomie und deinen Stil

Danke sehr, auch für die Kritik. Was Menschen angeht habe ich noch enorm viel zu lernen. Ich zeichne sie einfach viel zu selten, vor allem auch Männer. Frauen kriege ich ja einigermaßen hin, aber männliche Proportionen sind einfach... anders.XD
Aus dem Grund biete ich ja auch nur Kreaturen an, sobald es um trades, commissions oder auch Kiribans geht.
Auf die Federn bin ich aber doch ein bissl stolz. Da hat sich die viele Übung schon bezahlt gemacht.

Die Federn sind genial *_* Vor allem finde ich die Flügelform total klasse. Sehr eigen und vor allem hübsch. Anatomisch logisch!

Flügel machen mir inzwischen richtig Spaß. Genau wie Pfoten. Als ich mit Zeichnen angefangen habe, habe ich diese Parts gehasst. Vielleicht ergeht es mir mit Menschen irgendwann auch so.^^'

Eigentlich hätte ich so schön Zeit, aber jetzt ist ein neuer Auftrag reingekommen, dazu noch der (?) Kiriban und nun muss ich rotieren, um alles fristgerecht fertig zu kriegen.

That was the only limit for the contest: Whatever creature Fable turns into, it has to be dark red.
The problem is I have to use lots of references for angles/perspective, proportions, hands and feet, if I want to draw something that looks even halfway human.:/
It´s not fun at all and I feel like cheating, because I didn´t create it completely myself this way.

that's not cheating! You surely didn't learn to draw animals without any references. (All others use references, too, or have spent years learning by using them)
I think the reference-thing is a typically German problem from a ...hm...famous site there. People are told they must rely on their own genius, no matter what-! And then they are disappointed when they find out they are not Picasso (or any other gifted master).
Take ships for example. I currently practise/learn drawing ships. By myself I couldn't have imagined anything about ships at the beginning. A boat with a sail on top. This would be a plain picture no one would want to see. But then I went to library and took some books home about sailing, old warships... and I copied a lot of them into my sketchbook. This is the first step to "do it right". Look what's already there. Learn the rules. THEN use your imagination to develop it further.
I'm still learning the rules about cats, owls, people etc. as well. I'm afraid the learning/practise will never end : D So just go on and fear not

It´s just a personal feel. I know it´s not really cheating, but I have developed a rather high expectation of myself and my drawings over the years. With creatures and animals, this works well. I only use references for the muscle build out of two anatomy books now, where I needed help with poses, fur, faces, paws, nearly everything years ago. The problem is, with drawing humans I expect the same of me and that doesn´t work out. It´s frustrating and I can´t be proud of anything I draw, because there are so many mistakes although I used references. I know it´s a slow learning process, that I have to practice and copy a lot from references, but still...*sigh*
I´m always happy if I can go back to drawing some feral creatures after my cripply humans.XD
