Cancer cell continued to fight off Killer T cell and NK cell as they desperately tried to fight him and Regulatory T cell just to save their precious neutrophil. Cancer cell glanced towards the trapped neutrophil who had seemed to have given up banging on the container and using his voice but instead just leaned against the glass wall as he sat on the ground. He had finally taken Cancer cell’s advice and was remaining as still as possible but he looked miserable. Cancer cell felt a bit sorry for the neutrophil but he needed to keep him protected. Regulatory T cell was doing a fantastic job of keeping Killer T and NK away from the container. Seeing them all busy, Cancer cell crouched down to the neutrophil’s level, his wings flapping slightly with excitement.

“You know I want you,
it’s a secret I show to you.
I know you fear me,
But I contained you to keep you safe.
You think I want to hurt you,
But that is so far from the whole truth.
It sounds a bit farfetched,
But I crave you my friend.
So who can stop me if I decide,
That you’re my destiny?”

Cancer cell sang quietly to the neutrophil, U-1146 looked at Cancer cell before shuffling awkwardly in the container. Cancer cell didn’t quite want the body of the other two immune cells from finding out that he was singing, it wasn’t common practise and he only wanted his best friend to hear his voice. He had waited and practised long and hard to make this perfect…if he messed up now he’ll never forgive himself. His fear was how U-1146 was going to react. Would the neutrophil just ignore or it will he react and respond to it? The butterflies in his stomach made Cancer cell push himself to sing the next verse. He once heard the cytotoxic T cells singing their stupid little song but this was a song he wanted to sing just for the neutrophil.

“If you think singing is going to make this situation better? You’re wrong,” U-1146 hissed at Cancer cell and smiled when he saw Cancer cell’s frown. He couldn’t break the glass container…so words were the best weapon he had now. If he hurt Cancer cell with words…maybe that would encourage the cancerous cell to let him out and have a proper fight with him. His blades remained in her holsters on his body, all screaming at him to draw them and slash at Cancer cell…the glass…anything! He couldn’t draw them though; they weren’t strong enough to shatter or even scratch the glass. U-1146 watched as Cancer cell placed his hand on the container…and flinched when he watched the hand pass through the glass walls. U-1146 forced the fear down as Cancer cell’s fingers ran across his cheek…how warm his hand was. Cancer cell continued.

“What if we rewrite our roles?
Say that we can be best friends,
No one can complain then
If we become partners for all time.
It’s up to you, and it’s up to me,
When we will share our first little kiss,
So why don’t we rewrite our roles?
Maybe then we could be free,
Tonight.”

“You will not harm him, he is a cell from the body,” Regulatory T cell spoke in a monotone voice as she slammed her heel into Killer T’s stomach and let go of the cell before turning her attention towards NK.

“He’s a cancer cell! He needs to die!” NK screamed but another attempted was ruined as Regulatory T cell got involved and deflected the attack.

U-1146 pushed himself up from the bottom of the container and pushed the hand off his face and walked over to Cancer cell, he wasn’t sure why but he felt the rage bubbling inside of him. He wanted to know how Cancer cell could pass through the glass while he can’t, what was the glass made of?

“Anti-neutrophil?” U-1146 asked as he tapped the glass.

“Anti-Immune, you could say~” Cancer cell purred in response. He heard the sigh from U-1146 before he placed a hand on the container and watched as Cancer cell placed his hand on the gloved hand. Behind him, a wall of cancerous tumour separated the pair of them from the raging battle going on behind him. He watched as U-1146 relaxed slightly before he sighed.

“You think it’s easy?
You think I want to be held by you?
But I have boundaries
And there are lines that you cannot pass!
I know what you’re thinking,
But what if it’s just us?
Just you and me?
Within these walls?
But when the others arrive,
We have to play enemies again and fight with all our strength!”

Cancer cell’s face lit up with delight after hearing that U-1146 was returning the song back to him, something he knew that U-1146 didn’t prepare in the past. This was spontaneous and Cancer cell felt proud to be the one to receive this…his kind-hearted killer was singing back to him. His nucleus fluttered and skipped a pulse.

“No one can rewrite our roles!
No one can say you’ll be mine!
Everything keeps us apart!
How can you fall for a neutrophil?
It’s not up to you,
It’s not up to me,
We all have our roles given to us.
How can we rewrite our roles?
Claim that we can just be free?
Tonight?”

Cancer cell mentally sighed as he understood the message that U-1146 was telling him. He would be right normally but this time the words didn’t feel right. The neutrophil had just responded to his song that he had been practising for days…yet his kind-hearted killer sang back to him. He watched as U-1146’s hand slid down the glass before he saw a smile form on the neutrophil’s face. Without thinking, Cancer cell opened the container and helped U-1146 out, his wings emerging from his back before he took a deep breath in.

“All I want is to hold you close,
All I want it to be with you,
So please just give me a chance?”

He wrapped his arms around U-1146 and wrapped them both up in his wings, his kind-hearted killer was cold and he didn’t like it. His love interest who didn’t take care of himself…he could feel his desire to protect him grow rapidly if they could ignore the battle going on behind the wall and just stay like this forever…they could both be free.

“This feels impossible / It’s not impossible,
Can this be possible?”

They both sang together even if it was just above a whisper. Yes, this can be possible if U-1146 let it happen. Cancer cell was always willing to let this happen but he couldn’t if U-1146 rejected it. The neutrophil pushed himself out from the hug and out from Cancer cell’s grip yet still looked at him.

“Let’s say it’s possible…”

Cancer cell saw a smile forming on U-1146’s face. Did he just realise what they could do if they weren’t tied to the roles they had? How much more fun would life be? Once again, they sang in unison much to Cancer cell’s excitement.

“How do we rewrite our roles?
Say that we can be best friends,
Nothing will keep us apart.
Cause I will let you hold me close my friend.
It’s up to us,
Not up to them,
No one can say we can’t be friends.
So why don’t we rewrite our roles?
Claiming this world to be ours.”

U-1146 reached behind his back and felt for his blade, fingers curled around the handle and his grip tightened. Cancer cell was distracted at the moment…he could do this and Regulatory T cell couldn’t stop him…hopefully, the cancerous wall will hopefully slow her down enough for him to kill Cancer cell. He’ll take his punishment later if she was still under the influence of whatever Cancer cell had done to her. Before Cancer cell had any idea on what was running through his head, he whipped the blade out from the holster and stabbed the cancerous cell. He pushed the blade further into Cancer cell and felt the warm cytoplasm against his glove, the scent of the wet fluid filled U-1146’s nose.

“W-w-why?” Cancer cell asked as he fell down to the ground. U-1146 crouched down to the dying cell on the ground.

“I know you want me,
It’s not a secret you hide so well.
But this can’t happen,
We’ve both been given our roles, that’s all.”

U-1146 finished the song staring down at Cancer cell.

“My…kind…hearted…killer…soon…okay?” Cancer cell smiled as tears filled his eyes. He should have known…but he got caught up in his own excitement.

“Goodbye, Cancer cell.”
