I am getting SICK of the shit job they've done turning Magi nation into a tv show. I was this close to crying and anyone who knows me knows that I don't cry easily. It hasn't even aired yet and I'm in full hate and spite mode. So as a bit of carthesis I've turned to drawing the real versions of the characters wiping the floor with the new fake ones, this is the first of many I have planned. That's right, I don't even consider these actual cannon for Magi Nation.Unfortunetly I don't think I'll be able to get another comic page in before it airs. So I'm going all out with this other stuff.
And a little something I could imagine the dialog as.
Fake: "Get offa' me!"
Strag: ".....Uhhh no."
Fake: "I said GET OFF!!"
Strag: "And I said no, now shut up you're distracting me."
Fake: "You big jerk!"
Strag: "On to name calling, how mature."
Fake: "Get the hell off of me or so help me..."
Strag: "Tsk tsk, watch that language you are a kids' show. And help you? Yeah, you'll need a lot of that."
Fake: "......."
Strag: *inspects claws*
Fake: "......."
Strag: *makes sure that line he sees isn't a crack*
Fake: "......."
Strag: *is relieved when it's just a hair*
Fake: "STOP IGNORING ME!!!"
Strag: "Shut up."
Fake: "I will not shut up!!!"
Strag: *hits him over the head*
Fake: "......."
Strag: "......." *sees a crack* "Crap"
Magi Nation is not mine, which is really sad.

From the viewpoint of someone who grew up with neither of the games, and whose first introduction to Magi Nation was through the show, the show is a good way to learn the basics of what Magi Nation is about. It is flawed, but it is not some terrible anathema.
From someone who grew up with the card game or the video game, however, it would seem like it was ruined forever. They would see it as the destruction of something that they truly cared about, and would not be able to forgive anyone.
I started on the show, and have heard about the games through it. Thus, I have fewer problems with the show than you probably do. On its own, as its own creation, the show is fine. When compared to the games however, it isn't.
While some of the changes are cosmetic (hair colour, etc), others, such as using raw animite, may have been made to better help transition the show to TV, or to update it.
Niether Strag is fake, however. That would be like declaring that an alternate version of yourself is a fake, just because you didn't know about them. They are not the same person, and should not be taken for such.
If anything, you can console yourself with the fact that Show!Strag is related to Agram, and is nearly turned into a shadow magi on multiple occasions.

I happen to enjoy the show. I've never seen the games, be it card or video game. I know what it's like to have a beloved medium ruined by someone, but not all mediums ruin things through different character interpretation. The two Strags aren't the same person, even if there are those who want them to be. Without knowing the games I can't give a full evaluation, but I would imagine that TV!Strag is younger and slightly more naive, while GAME!Strag looks to be a fighter who's seen his share of the downsides to life.
Different Universes, different characters, different stories is all I'm saying. Please give those of us who are fans of the show a chance.

Okay, replying to my post from two years ago - While the cartoon is, admittedly pretty lame, it at least tries to make up for all of it's changes by keeping in or giving nods to things from the CCG and Gameboy games.
For example: from what I've seen of the card game, you have 3 Magi that you play with. In the show, there are three main characters. I will admit that this point might be a stretch, but the fact still stands.
I've watched a bit of the original game on Youtube, and I've also played quite a bit of the (now defunct) online game. Are there major differences? Yes. Yes there are. However, the basic principles of combat - Relics, Spells, Dream Creatures and Focusing - do remain and are in fact very similar. Would I have preferred a game closer to the original? Yes, but because I'd like to see how the world could be shown today.
And despite the show's flaws, it got at least one thing right - Orwin's VA. I can very clearly imagine that person saying some of Game Orwin's lines.
I can enjoy both, but I can also see the flaws. I guess it's all just a matter of perspective.

I loved Strag. HE was my favorite magi. I played with him all the time when th card game was hot. So when I saw him, with out goggles, claws etc. I felt your pain. I still wish to go to the producers and kill them.

The sad thing is, once I did get a peek at the show Strag is the least offensive one on there. My favorite to Magi was/is(if I can get anyone to play) Fossik. If you ever played that online flash game they made you'll know my sympathy towards you of mangled characters.

There's a couple of episodes on youtube if you're feeling masochistic enough. There was no way I was watching it on tv, that pause button is crucial to preserving brainmatter.

The main point of this was to vent my frustrations over the poor cartoon adaption of a card game that I absolutely love. What I've shown here are the differences that have been made to one of the individual characters. In this case Strag.
