Description
Ah yes... Comments. The feedback of DA. That certain something we want more than anything else in this site. Kinda explains why a lot of artists goes in hissy pissy fit in a borderline hilarious manner and make rants, complaints, and stamps crying about people not commenting on their art. If you’re one of those artists that does or may do this, to things you need to do: 1) Grow up, kid. 2) prepare for some hard ugly truth.
1) A lot of people just don’t comment. In fact, no one owes you comments to begin with. If you’re expecting lots of comments on your pictures, then prepare for the hard world of disappointment. Art with over 100k+ views doesn’t have that many comments. *NOTE: Replies don’t count*
2) NEVER complain about people not commenting. Not only a lot of people will find it extremely annoying, bit it may cause them to comment even LESS. If you don’t receive a comment, don’t cry about it and just move on. You’re not entitled to your comments, so don’t act like it.
3) Speaking of which, there are different types of comments: One word comments, flat out insults/flaming comments, comments that have nothing to do with the pictures, compliments, and constructive criticism. More than likely, you want the constructive criticism and compliments. It’s pretty rare that you’ll get constructive criticism, and a much higher chance of getting compliments (if you produce good quality art). All the others are pretty much those types that you don’t want.
-------------------
4) Lets talk about faves, since favs are apparently the most hated thing on this site next to recolors. The “fave” is pretty much a “like.” But this “like” is unliked by a lot of artists, because all they get is a message saying that added it to their favorites. See, there are more to it. When artwork gets faved. It goes in the person’s gallery of faves. In other words, each fave is like a signal boost because it’s it more than one gallery. Be glad someone liked your picture enough to actually fave it. Complaining about people faving your art without commenting make you seem like an ungrateful brat. Answer this. Would you rather have a lot of faves and no comments, or no comments and no favs?
---------------------
Lets talk about something that almost everyone love to brag what they don’t care about. Views and pageviews. That funny thing that a lot of people are so quick to disregard to make themselves look like a “true/real artist.” There are stamps saying “I don’t care about pageviews” or “it’s about art, not pageviews” then people hops aboard the hype train of self-righteous idioticracy.
What is a pageview? If you say something like “It’s just a number,” then you have probably jumped on the train without any idea on what it is. Pageviews is the number of people; yes, actual people, entering your page to look at your gallery, watch you, etc. That means your art (if you’re posting art) is attracting people into your page, and your pageview stats are telling how many it’s attracting. This is why pageviews are important.. Not only because it shows the number of people coming in to look at your drawings, it also serves as a motivator because of it. Getting the increase of pageviews as payoff for their efforts in creating their content is a huge motivator. It says “Hey! Your art are drawing people in!”
Another thing about “not caring about pageviews” is the hype of being “blind to pageviews. Congrats? Fun fact: You’re not completely “blind” to pageviews. Even if you turn it off, you’ll still be able to look at your own pageviews, which renders the blindness completely false. All it does is block your DAILY pageviews.
Let’s be real. Views are pretty freaking important. Actually, it’s the most important thing (which is why these lessons exists) when it comes to posting on art websites. Why? Well, why else would you post your art on the world’s biggest website? It’s so people can see them. And what happen when people see your art? They watch you, they fave, and probably the most important to you, they comment. If you have little to no views on your art, you won’t be getting any of that. Quite ironic, isn’t?
Ask yourself this. Do you truly not care about pageviews? If not, then don’t complain or make some kind of comments, or drama journals on how people are gaining more pageviews than you.
You said they’re just numbers right? So, try to figure out what these numbers mean.
Speaking of pageviews, let's talk about views in general.
Judging from the responses I've received from the question, "Which is most important, views, comments, or faves?" the views are the least important of the three. Funny to say that this is not the case. Prepare to get your mind blown. Despite what people says, views are the most important thing when it comes to posting art. Why? Lets look at it more than just a number. Lets look at views from a different perspective. Now what does view mean? It means the ability to see something. What does this have to do with posting art on deviantart? A lot! The reason is simple. For your post to gain those comments you desire, they have to be able to see it. Because if they can't see it, then you'll have absolutely no chance on getting favs and comments. This is why working to get your art as much exposure possible is pretty important if you want lots of comments and favs.
Mind blown yet?
--------------------
Personal opinions: It’s okay to care a lot about your stats. I care a lot about my stats. I admit it. I care about stats. Does that make me less of an artist? No. Does it affect my drawing ability in a negative sense? No. No it doesn't.

Looks nice your post, but I still think that one artist must not being focused on "faves", "comments" or "pageviews" in order to "measure" his/her art skill level.

The common question: Which one should hold the highest priority when it comes to posting art: views, comments, or favs?
