Very much appreciate the description.  A lot of people seem to have gotten the idea people in nomad tribal cultures go around dressed up like they are about to pick a fight with Kevin Costner all the time, but it is important to remember that though the inventory may be smaller, the idea of separate formal wear is universal.

Reminds me of an incident described in Stone Age and White Indians (not sure if it has been published in English, but if so that would be the title), where a Brazilian museum of anthropology was to refurbish its exhibitions to more accurately reflect tribal culture rather than an outsider's view. For this purpose they went out and acquired lain off clothing from different tribes, displaying them with great care not to mix items. But as the story goes, when one of the tribal emissaries saw the mannequin dressed to represent his tribe, he just doubled over laughing.
Now the poor curator panicked and couldn't for his life understand what had gone wrong. After all he had made sure the items were genuine. Why, yes, the emissary explained, they were genuine alright - but they had to understand there was no way you could match those cuffs with that headdress...

Well thank you! This is a combination of several styles of Native American tribal wear-they have such lovely bead work and detail to their clothing

I read the autobiography of Geronimo.  In it he said it was normal for the plains Indians to gather on a yearly basis for a conclave.  It was during this time that marriages were arranged to strengthen ties between the different tribes of the great nations.  He also said that they always wore their finest clothing.  Perhaps, this family is heading for one of these conclaves.

Really, really good.  Lot of work put into that and it shows.  Like Narnia, there are talking animals and regular ones.  Guess the horses don't get a vote!

FlapperFoxy In reply to BillyDBunny [2019-08-30 23:35:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The horses can most likely talk-they just choose to walk on all fours

In Narnia Mr. and Mrs. Beaver eat ham, I always thought that Lewis did not think that one through.  In the Hobbit Beorn the Were-Bear is a vegetarian, as is a similar character in the Prydain books.  Consider this:

I was eating at a farmer's house the other day, and we were served by a pig with 3 artificial legs.  I asked about this, and the Farmer said that the pig could cook, sew, do heavy chores and play the piano.  When I asked about the prosthetic limbs, he replied-

"Oh, well, with a pig like that you just don't eat him all at once"!

Food for thought.
