Loki was honestly surprised to see Robin standing there, waiting for him in the middle of the square. He had no guesses about who could have sent the note, and found himself feeling a bit relived to see her standing there. He tucked in his wings as they walked, pressing them into his shoulders for warmth as he unwound his scarf, pausing before the makeshift table. He regarded it for a moment, and something like worry passed over Robins face, but he sat down and the look disappeared.
"You... you did this for me?"
He looked again at the table, the two dishes, and the fat little candle guttering on a little silver dish. Robin bobbed her head, giving him a half smile.
"Happy Heartkindle."
Loki suddenly grinned at her, joy and love bubbling up in his stomach at not the gift, but the thought behind it.
"It looks wonderful, lets eat!"
And so they did, each recounting funny encounters that had happened to them in previous days, Loki debated the idea of an eyepatch, which caused Robin to burst out giggling, telling him he'd look like a pirate.
As the night grew later and the stars began to come out more and more, Loki stopped to look at his mate, to really see her. She was happy, her eyes unclouded and sparkling, her smile genuine and full of joy, and something tightened in his chest at the sight of it. Emotions hit him like a blow, and he reached into the little pocket that he carried with him at all times, tied to the inside edge of his wing, hidden out of sight.
He drew a small grey box covered in soft velvet and just held it, nervously trailing his thumb over the lid.
Robin continued to talk about something Attomyk had done earlier, when suddenly Loki cut in.
"Hey Robin...?"
She paused, looking at him, waiting.
"Can I ask you something...? I just..."
He trailed off, letting his words die as he stood and tugged on her arm, pulling her up and away from the table a few steps, before releasing her and taking a step back.
He took her hand in his once more, and stared intently at her, the words all coming out in a rush.
"i've known you for a long time, and we've seen so much together, and I wouldn't take back one second of it. I know we've fought, we've lost and we've hurt, but I would do it all again just to spend a day by your side. I love you, more than life itself, so Robin,"
He slid down on one knee, letting go of her claw to open the small box, revealing a gold ring, carved with the lunar cycles, the full moon a shining pearl.
"Will you marry me?"
