Description
This started with the squiggly thumbnail attempts in the bg back in November (there was a Halloween themed contest by Medibang going on, but since Oct had already finished my spook mood had died down and I ended up not joining after all). Although those thumbnails never turned into a full drawing I still wanted to design the witch character I'd planned to use. Plus I remembered there was a sketch page/collage prompt for the 2019 composition challenge. I only managed to do the first prompt so I though knocking one extra in the last month would be nice even knowing I couldn't complete the challenge.Sketch pages are such good kicks for productivity! Since there's no pressure of it being polished it's just a really nice warm up and you can finish them quickly or slowly, all at once or fill em up in between other art. You can still have fun with overall composition too, which I tried to focus on more with this one. Usually my traditional sketch pages are pretty all over the place but I tried to play more into size differences, color, and where everything was placed (guess one benefit of doing it digitally is getting to move things around after the fact). Adding all the little stars was also super fun and tied things together more. Definitely a good way to ease back into digital art for me. The only thing really that I'm still not sure about with this is if her legs look wonky or not.
Also the colors turned out way different than what I'd originally imagined but I'm so happy with the end results. Character design is not something I'm very confident in so that's a win \o/ I'm excited to draw her again. Still gotta come up with some background info and a name for her though (and the cat)! If any of y'all have some ideas I'd love to hear them.

A charming sketch page with a charming witch character is something I'm fond of and I would be excited as well to see you draw her again. As for names... well there is a star motif to the witch so how about Seren or Citlali; both of which mean star. As for the cat, well the purple flower around their neck looks like an aster, so how about Aster... although I believe that is a girl's name only so if the cat happens to be a boy... Sterling?
Onto commenting on the drawing as a whole, and it's an interesting piece of paper given how you can see your various sketches and drawings over time, with the summary given a nice history as to how the artwork displayed here came about. I can understand what you mean by sketching being good for productivity, as a way to draw for fun, like bullet pointing ideas and possibilities for a story. The top-most background sketch is actually organised quite well, as I can make out the witch and cat hanging over an edge, likely a window sill, a cosy house down below, and such. The second sketch is a tad messier; it looks like the witch is about to start an adventure along a brick road... or is walking along a giant board game.
The main aspect of the drawing is the created character though and the couple of headshot previews do display neat experimentation with facial expressions and allow closer up views of her. It's easier to make out in these two headshots the way her hair looks, both the look of her twin-tails and how the... fringe(?) parts. My favourite part of the close-ups is seeing the unique markings you've given the character under her eyes; it's a nice touch of style and the swirls add a cute touch.
As for the witch (and her cat) full body depiction down below, she has an overall great design. I'm not sure I quite agree with the mismatched knee-high boots, it's quirky but the lack of light purple in other parts of her clothing (unless you count her broom) makes it feel out of place where as the yellow has presence in the rest of her clothing. The design of the thigh-high boots are really cool though, a nice streak of colour going up them. She's got a lovely dress which manages to be simple yet elegant; keeping to a consistent colour whilst having flourishes through exposed shoulders and a daring star cut-out across the chest. Her hat keeps up the star motif and looks fantastic, whilst I may have already hinted to being a fan of the twintails and the light blue-grey hair colour. Nice green eyes and a cute petite nose makes for cute looking character, but the daring elements to her dress and her fierce expression in the cut-out hints to a character with a quite a fire to her; one who is rather bold and headstrong.
An the cat is adorable, as all cats are. The flower collar is cool, and the white patterns are well placed. Some cool spots are chosen but they don't all feel too conveniently placed giving it a more natural look. I'm unsure how to finish off this comment really other than to say... I really liked this artwork; great job!

First off, Happy Birthday, Flutterbest!
Secondly, thank you for the reply and I'm glad you like the names of Seren and Sterling. I didn't even consider how well they would go together but the names do work well for a duo of characters.
Nice to know I got the first one mostly right. As for the second thumbnail, now that you've mentioned it, I see what you mean. The purple character to the left now resemble the cat more and more each time I look at it.
I will admit, the purple to her broom is a nice touch and gives it a good bit of flair. It is true that the broom won't be in view all the time, so you have to keep that in consideration when considering the colour choice of her standard attire. An oh my gosh; I did not notice the hair ties; oops. Once again, I can notice them better now that you've pointed them out.
I'm glad to hear my comment was of help.
