Thanks, I'm slowly getting better at this art thing.

If you don't mind me asking, what programs are you using to create your art?

Mainly Paint Shop Pro, and sometimes Paint.NET, depending on what I'm doing.

I'm not familiar with either of those programs, but have you tried using Inkscape [link] to do vectors? From what I understand, most people use either that or Photoshop to make the vectors seen on this site.
Also, are you using a reference pony or is it all freehand? All my stuff uses a reference so it is easy to keep the proportions correct. If it is freehand, then you've done an awesome job at getting the proportions correct!

I've never heard of Inkscape, though I'll look at it now, and I'm fairly certain Photoshop tends to cost a good bit, and I don't generally have much in the way of money. My Paint Shop Pro is a fairly old version I've had for a good while, and Paint.NET is a free program. Most of my stuff is freehand, though I've been using the pony creator by GeneralZoi (generalzoi.deviantart.com) to get a better idea of pony proportions. The better looking pic of my OC started as a rough freehand sketch that I went over with the line tool, then deleted the layer with the initial sketch so it would come out looking good. As for vectors, I'm still not entirely certain exactly what those are, though from what I gather they're essentially pics that somehow don't lose quality when you resize them, but I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Most pictures you see are rasterized. That means that each pixel of the image is addressed somehow. (Pixel 1 is green, pixel 2 is blue, etc.) In a vector image, the pixels aren't addressed, but a shape is created by using a series of points and curves. This allows the image to maintain the same quality no mater what size it is.
My Little Pony is created using vectors. All the ponies you see are a vectors done in Flash. So when someone does a vector of a pony, they are pretty much recreating the way the ponies are created in the first place.
Inkscape is a free program that only does vectors. I'd suggest looking up some YouTube tutorials on how to use it. I'm sure there are plenty with how to make ponies. I find making a good quality image with vectors is a whole lot easier than with traditional methods. I can't draw. I'm sure that if I had any skill in drawing I could possibly do some of the amazing art that is found in many of the groups here, but since I don't have any skill, I'll stick to vectors.

Neat. I'll go look for some of those when I get the chance. It'd be nice to be able to do some really good stuff for once. Eventually, I'm hoping to get a Wacom Tablet or something of that sort, because I draw MUCH better physically than I can with a mouse, and I could probably make some really good art with something like that. Thankfully for me, art and music seem to run in my family, so hopefully before too long I'll get better at drawing and be able to put out some better work. Thanks for the link to Inkspace. I downloaded it so I'll start trying it out here soon. ^_^

Hey, you're stuff is really good. When I try to do hand drawn stuff, I make stick-figures cry.

I used to be that way. I stopped taking art classes after 5th grade, and I'm in my late 20's now, so until very recently, I hadn't done any art of any kind in many years. At this point I need to learn more about different poses and such so I can branch out from my current "just standing there" drawings to something that looks like it actually has some life to it.
