Description
Experiments in Cosmos ISelf Portrait
Download for details
While these pieces were exhibited separate, they both serve the same function. They are both more abstract self portraits, consisting of ideas and shapes that represent me.
The left image was created using charcoal, vector, photo, analog drawing, digital painting, watercolor, and paint. The right image had a sketch which was made with analog and watercolor, but the final was made with 3D(c4d), stock(class provided) and digi.
A scribble rom my artist statement:
'When I explore concepts to creating a piece I usually start off with one or two main ideas, and then the rest of my concept flows in and gets realized in the piece later on, once I have developed a complete structure or composition. I decided to expand upon my traditional portrait of myself, but to take away all of the facial elements, and replace them with objects and forms that define me. This piece is related to my other projects in the way that it connects to the cosmos- something that has always been important to me ever since I opened my first astronomy book. The cosmos is probably the main concept throughout all of my final pieces, representing not just an obsession but a way of thought and order which defines my work and how I approach daily life. The cosmos represents my thoughts that there is a solution to any problem; an infinite number of possibilities that can occur at any time. The reason I chose a galaxy to represent myself in this image is because it has a winding road down to the center, where there is a dense population of stars and systems. This represents the way I approach life; whether it be a simple problem or a piece of art. I try to follow a path from beginning to end and stay dedicated to one view until I reach my goal. The galaxy is the most significant element of the portrait, but style, technique, and colors also represent how I approach any work of art.'
Second piece will come soon! Its alot larger
