Description Photo Every Day in May Day 15!

Location: Appalachian Trail, Massachusetts.

Does anyone know what this flower is? These pretty little flowers were scattered all over the side of the Appalachian Trail and no one could figure out what they were.

This is a trout lily. I've yet to get a chance to photograph one for myself that is fully open like this. There's a preserve near me where they are quite abundant but it always seems I'm a little too early and then I'm not able make it back at the right time.

Thanks! I hope you have better luck photographing them this year. They seemed to all be opening up when I saw them (around two weeks ago).

Unfortunately they are probably finished blooming here (south east PA) especially considering everything was early this year.

Darn... I wonder if they are still blooming in other parts of New England? But yeah, everything was really early, so maybe not.

Who knows? I don't know how far north they range either.

Apparently they range all the way up to Maine?
