will you take one huge picture of all of this?

Thank you! I'm an enthused geek for taxonomy so it was a given that I'd sort my natural history collection into this format.

Maybe I missed but, i didnt tsaw the ursidae and your bear D:
...
you have a bear skull, right? O-ó
I know by memory mostly of the mammals families and orders XD
also I know the taxonomy description of the mexican gray wolf. Actually is my favourite wolf, and I´ll join the campaign in... 3 years XD
But im helping right now buying any support for them, as cards or a silver coin for the mexican gray wolf recovery program XD
Is there any wolf support there where you live?

Ursidae is listed.
There's no support that I've seen or heard of. It would be cool if there was though.

Yay!! You took me up on the suggestion
That is an impressive list
I went to a bazaar yesterday, & ever hopeful, I went a-hunting for preserved animals....
I found (preserved in that clear silicon thing):
2 female rhino beetles,
1 male rhino beetle,
1 dungbeetle...
But each for twenty euros They were nice enough, okayish preserved, but definitely over priced... Grr. I came back at the end to see if the guy had given in, but to no avail, they were still the same price.....

Yes! I have seen other people's collections in list format but I wasn't too fond of the way they were set up. Now, with me basing it on the taxonomy system, I really like it much better. It also makes it really easy to see what I have at a glance and I don't have to worry about forgetting someone/something.
I got more pics today so expect them up on FossilFeather soon.
That's ridiculous! I've seen them some places for dirt cheap, like only a few bucks. I wonder why the heck that guy was asking so much for his.

Yeah, your way is really clear & well organised
Whenever you get new things you should add them to it here
Ooooh, can't wait to see them ^.^ I have to photograph mine....
I also nearly got a fox jawbone today. Theres another roadkill fox, but its b een dead for over a week I'd say, & quite squished.... I'll try to salvage the jawbone (I didn't have anything sharp today) & a smidgeon of the pelt for a bracelet. I'd love a claw or fang too....
I'd say the beetle guy thought they were rare or something.... They were impressive, but hardly worth that much.

FossilFeather In reply to HawthornHare [2009-11-30 18:25:24 +0000 UTC]
Nah, not my way... Carolus Linnaeus's way (I can't take any credit for that)! I love the categorization of natural things.
Probably comes from my obsession with sorting and ordering items.
And I'll definitely keep updating this as it is now my master list of my collection.
Nice! You should surely be able to find something nice to salvage from it. Even if the skull is smashed, there's a good chance at least one of the fangs is still good. The claws would be a little difficult to remove though, wouldn't they?

Ah, good ol' Carl I first heard of him from Bill Oddie, Springwatch. Best. Show. EVER... You either love or hate Bill. It was origonally mostly about animals catering for & raising their kids in the spring. Famous for the tiny cameras they hid in the bird's nestboxes, & Bill Oddie & Kate Humble's (the presenters) humour & wide knowledge.
The fox is at the edge of the road, but its quite busy, so I'm not keen on all the people glaring venoumously out their car windows at me while I pick at rotting, squashed fox with a flick knife I just have to pick the claws out I guess... Will be foul though n
but worth it!

FossilFeather In reply to HawthornHare [2009-12-01 00:48:27 +0000 UTC]
I haven't heard of that show. It must be one of those things only you privileged people in Europe get to enjoy.
Well, you could always scoop the fox up in a big, black plastic bag so you can take it home and pick through it at your leisure. I too am always a little timid about my roadkill pick-ups when there are people driving by. I couldn't imagine sitting by the side of the road poking at it while they all look on!

Hehe heh, its prob on youtube, & you guys get Yellowstone National park!! WE has no wolves... 'Cept for a few in a zoo that I haven't been to, but from what I hear, its not so great... I still want to visit the wolves though
I saw a fresh fox on the road, about seven metres away from the first fox in the bus on the way to school this morning... I texted my mum to come & save it for me before anyone got to squish it, but when she came it was gone I'm hoping that someone just moved it to the side of the road... If so, when I drop by tommorrow, I'll be picking up two foxes!! & this one was so intact that I can use the pelt & bones too
& I'm the same, I'm way too shy of being declared mentally unbalenced by the onlookers, I like to scavenge in privicy

FossilFeather In reply to HawthornHare [2009-12-07 16:46:26 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that really is interesting then. I wonder who's been doing it. Do you think it might be road patrol that cleaned them up? In some areas here, city workers will come out and remove the roadkill sometimes.

HawthornHare In reply to FossilFeather [2009-12-07 22:27:54 +0000 UTC]
I think its probably some animal lover who hates seeing them get squished too O.o It probably got a full blown funeral Or some hunter has gone off bragging to their friend about how great they are & then produced roadkill It made me realise though... Should roadkill turn up, I have no eqipment or supplies!

Or maybe it just... Disappeared?
Or it was never really there at all & I'm just crazy? How do I know that even you exist?

Dang, didn't realize you had so much! I'm still jealous of your serval. Really want a few african pelts like the springbok. Want something unique and not just the ordinary fox or coyote. You've got quite a bit of skulls too

Yeah, I'm trying to get all the types of foxes, they're so beautiful, but lately I've been wanting some kind of ungulate. I'd love a springbok or something similar to that, but can't seem to really find any. Might just look on ebay lol. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get all of yours? Servals and a few others aren't very common.

I list in each pictures' description where I got the bones/pelts featured in the picture.
And I highly recommend a springbok pelt, mine is so silky compared to most ungulates.
