Description 6" x 16" Watercolor, acrylic, and ink.

Prints and original available: [link]

Egyptian vulture, turkey vulture, king vulture, cape griffon vulture, cinereous vulture, lammergeier (or bearded vulture), and California condor. These birds represent both new and old world vultures.

Much maligned, these amazing birds are intelligent, varied, and have many amazing and unique behaviors. The lammergeier, for instance, eats a diet mostly of bones, dropping them from a great height to crack them into swallow-able pieces!

Much as I love this, and really want to see it available in t-shirt form, I think you need to do a species check on your 'cape griffon vulture'. The pink on the neck, and the black on the back matches no cape griffon vulture I have seen in person and print.

Thank you! The cape griffons do have pink skin on their neck - if it is covered with feathers you don't see the color, just a white/tawny. [link]

or even wikipedia: [link]

And though I have seen light-backed individuals, I've also seen the dark backs - [link]

Hope that helps! I definitely took artistic liberty to make it pop a bit more, the bright pink - since they are usually more muted, but I wanted the color to stand out more nicely for printing.

Ah. I see the pink, and the darker coloring on the juvs.

I was going off of [link] [link] and the 'Raptors of the World' Princeton field guide, which don't show the pink (or the light bill, now that I re-examine them). At least in the head, it reminds me more of a white-headed vulture then a cape griffon.

JEEBUS lady, you are talented! I just came from your website... My friend Deidra told you about my vulture lust LOL I was thinking of this as a spinal tattoo, but would maybe like to talk to you about a custom or two. skullgrrl@yahoo.com is the best way to talk if you do customs.

The cinereous is actually pretty gorgeous!!! I'll have to show this to my friend; she works with bones and considers the vulture to be one of her totem animals.

Thank you! That is a really appropriate totem for a bone-worker. Vultures are awesome and really under appreciated birds!

I'll say! I showed this to her and she's determined to get it tattooed (with your permission of course).
They are truly fascinating birds though. I had one fly next our car once when we disrupted a clearing of them in the road. For just a moment, it matched the speed of our car and was hovering right next to my window before it sped up and lofted away. HOOLLLY CRAP that was terrifying. But AWESOME.

Please feel free to have her email me (foxfeather@foxloft.com) and I can give her some information about my policy for artwork/tattoo use.

I just love them! I'm super excited to see an owl stack. Water fowl would be interesting, with Anatidae. Seeing swanny swans. Can't wait to see what you do.

I will probably split that family up if I eventually get to them - just way too many awesome birds to pick from! Most likely will be eagles, parrots of different sorts, and chickens in the future. And hornbills... ahh, too many fantastic birds!
