Description The patterns on the wings and body of this butterfly are yellow, orange, and green Celtic Knotwork and Spirals. (Hand drawn, then scanned in and digitally colored/enhanced.) I tried to make the deviation a bit larger than I usually make them so the details would be easier to see.

do you use the mirror tool when making this?

How do you keep track of all those lines.ย  I am just starting to get into drawing celtic knots and they are really hard to not only draw per-existing ones, but to also create new ones from scratch.ย  well done.

i love the wings, but i'm not a fan of the knots for the body. What made you decide to do that?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

foxvox In reply to lesleyhat [2007-10-16 04:03:14 +0000 UTC]

I just wanted the markings on the butterfly to be knots, as I do celtic knotwork on everything - LOL.

I really like the intracacy of the designs, really very well done. The one thing that I'm not a fan of is the colors...I never thought orange looked very good with green, even if they both are accompanied by yellow...just my opinion. But still, this is really great!

Well, truth be told, I've never liked orange at all anyway. So, thats just me being bias about colors...but it still looks great!

My God, you are taking this to a whole other level! This is fantastic, the patterns are so varied yet arranged so harmoniously. Small thing to point out: the embossing you used in the background doesn't really serve you, because it suggest the background has relief while the butterfly itself is flat. Perhaps if you kept the lovely background motifs translucent as they are now, but without the emboss effect?
I wonder what you'll come up with next!

Nice design!

Any suggestions for an artwork to decorate my bodhrรกn?

foxvox In reply to wayfarer [2005-05-18 21:19:04 +0000 UTC]

Oooh - a butterfly bodhrรกn would be very cool! (Do you use anything special for the drumhead, or just regular paint? I've never done that before - heh.) I might go for something more abstract though, since beating on a butterfly might be weird psychologically - LOL.

(I've got congas, but they're undecorated)

Thanks for the !

wayfarer In reply to foxvox [2005-05-20 14:20:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've been told that the best you can use to decorate a goat skin is... natural hair tint. Here in Spain there are some herbalist's shops that have a henna based hair tint which is suitable. And you have several colours to choose from: black, brown, dark red... blonde...

Also I've been told that is preferable to make a template in heavy paper or carton... but that depends on how firm is your hand with the brush

Slainte!

Henna-tinting would look terrific! (I've often thought of giving myself a temporary henna 'tattoo' - heh.) Interesting!
