well if you remember the end of season 2 i think some of the changelings(not only Chrysalis) were alicorns ...look closely they had both wings and horns.

I think that they are immortal man...think if Princess Celestia dies the sun won't come up well the unicorns will have to do that again and the night as well ... she is made to be the supreme leader and her sister Luna as well which I consider stronger and smarter than Celestia because she can go in ponies dreams therefore she lives through the day and night(She is the princess of the night after all...)so i do think that alicorns are immortal,destined to rule forever.However they should always look after their subjects.Still Sombra as I had said earlier isn't an alicorn but he is immortal(he has really strong magic maybe)so unicorns through magic can become immortal or it's only crystal ponies because they live longer than normal ponies (the librarian looked old which means that they age but slower).

Well back then when Discord ruled (This is a theroy) He would raise the sun with Unicorns and their powers were stronger than now-when Celestia and Luna came along the Unicorns and other Ponie types lost the power they had from those years Discord ruled so thats why its so important that Celestia and Luna around-beacuse their power descreased
and the Crystal Ponies do age slower and being hidden for 1000 years hinders that

I think the only way an alicorn to die is if you kill one and you know that that's a hard thing to do,still i don't think that anyone will want to kill them except The Queen Of Changelings,Sombra (Bad guys)...
