Looks nice (and I believe it's easier to draw in this style because there are no outlines, that are really annoying at times...)

Photoshop. As far as I'm aware you can't texture in Inkscape. I may be wrong though, so don't quote me on that.

There are filters>textures in Inkscape. I haven't been using them too much really, (except for Professor Chaos's helmet in this comic: [link] ) - so I thought maybe one option there makes such an effect

What is it with people on DA and saying that MLP or FIM are copyrighted to Lauren Faust?
They never were at any point in history.

...No. Lauren Faust was just the executive producer for the show. She does not hold copyrights to the "My Little Pony" franchise, or any of the characters.
Hasbro holds the copyrights. MLP FIM is (c) Hasbro, not Lauren Faust.

Lauren created the characters and everything though for the show. She may not own the brand itself but she owns the characters at least.

...No, she does not own the characters either. They're copyrighted to HASBRO. Not Faust. They're based off of G1 and G3 ponies. Faust did not think them up herself.
Seriously, learn what copyright means. Just because Faust was the producer does not mean she owns the show or the characters.

...But that does not mean she owns rights to the characters! Do you even know how Copyright works? Seriously.
She did nothing but redesign already existing ponies from G1/G3. Does that mean if I redesign the main6, I can start saying "FIM (c) NostalgiaSchmaltz" ? No, I don't own those characters. They are not my intellectual property.
FIM is not owned by Faust, and it is not her intellectual property in the slightest bit.

Her design is what the show is based on. Her "pitch" is what the show was created on and styled after. Because Lauren designed the characters and feel of the show, people like to acknowledge her in the copyright area.

But acknowledging her as holding copyrights to the show is just wrong. Sure, she created lots of ideas for show, but she does not OWN the characters or the franchise. Hasbro owns them. Faust just worked with them.

As infamous as the third season has become in making fan-theories into episodes, I've yet to be convinced that this is indeed the big finale it's leading upto.

It's mostly coincidental, though. The show runners can't read fanfics and the like for legal reasons.
