debuting xana, my menhera oc and possible new mascot. they prefer interchangeable pronouns, so i'll change them every other paragraph.

xana is a fairly ill teen who her parents have nicknamed "rapunzel" -- when not hospitalized, she's held in her house almost all the time, and her parents find no issue with it. to them, treating her this way is keeping her safe, because they are very overprotective and worried she'll die if they're not careful. xana shies away from discussing other forms of abuse, so no one's ever been for sure what has happened behind closed doors.

marshmellow is probably the only one who knows much. marshmellow is their service cat and emotional support animal. mellow can tell when they're having breathing troubles or when they're getting ill. he's the only real friend xana ever had, because he's the only one who's never simply pitied them. despite xana's severe victim complex, along their inability to handle situations where they aren't the victim, they find pity disgusting. interacting with doctors and nurses have made xana jaded against making friends and opening up to any of them. many describe them as cold and rude.

xana carries a xanax body pillow, because she has an odd love for her xanax prescription. it's done only good for her, and she's come to rely on it emotionally. she also carries a cat backpack, which is full of her medical supplies and medications.

they keep extensive medical journals of their health, an idea given to them by a pediatrician when they were very young but continued to do even though most of their doctors disregard the journals. they write down the slightest symptom, so naturally they have a lot of journals, which they keep on a giant bookshelf labelled by dates.

she's in-toed and finds it very hard to walk without limping or falling over herself. (because my OCs always have one of my disabilities, right?)

they're also autistic. loud noises, older men, and being touched without them knowing/consenting causes meltdowns. they keep a lot of stim toys in their bag, their favourite being a chew necklace shaped like a pill.

she likes to sing to herself, but it's hard for her to sing very loud or hold long notes, so she usually hides it from most people.

xana has bandaged thighs and bandaged wrists. while they don't have an explanation for their thighs, they write off their bandaged wrists as covering up IV placements, but many nurses have speculated that there are self harm scars underneath.

xana uses menhera as a coping mechanism. she'd always been the sickly, pitiful girl that people didn't "awwh" at because she was cute, but because they felt sorry for her. she wanted people to see something else first besides the sickness. and when she discovered menhera, she found comfort in making her illnesses into something less pitiful and more cute. she also finds the long sleeves of the oversized sweaters a perk as she prefers to keep her wrists covered anyway.
