I got those error messages in the beginning as well.
Install JDK in "c:\program files\java\jdk1.6.0".

And run sunflow.bat. That got rid of the error messages for me.

oh many thanks, do i need to install all features of this jdk? i mean development tools, samples and source code etc.? all those options you have during the installation process?

I don't think you'll be needing the samples or the source code. I didn't install them. I do believe I installed the development tools though...

I'm not sure, really. However, I do remember Sunflow crashing once before I installed the JDK. The scene I was rendering had a large number of objects in it (100k+), so maybe Sunflow just ran out of memory.
It's been perfectly stable since I installed the JDK.

i have installed it, but had a small problem when running sunflow.bat
it says: system cannot find the path: c/windows/system32/cmd.exe
any idea what to do?

That sounds very strange. Are you by any chance running a 64-bit version of Windows?
You could always do a search for cmd.exe, create the folder Windows is looking for (c/windows/system32/), and copy the file there.

no i am running Win 32 and sorry, i do absolutely not understand what to do here. i have no idea about all those file types etc. i have found the cmd.exe in c/windows/system32. it is installed there. but when i double click the sunflow.bat the black window appears where it says cannot find the path, please press an arbitrary key. after pressing a key the window disappears. what folder do you mean which i have to create? sorry for all this asking but i have absolutely no experience with those type of things, it is so complicated. do i have to install sunflow on a certain place? what happens when you double click the sunflow.bat and what does all of this has to do with the Java SDK? please ignore this if you feel annoyed by all this technical questions, you are not a technical support. you do not need to answer, i would understand it.

If you get the black window, that means cmd.exe (the command prompt) is probably working and the problem isn't with Windows. I think the problem might be that you installed the JDK in the wrong path.
What you could do is to find the path where you installed JDK, copy the path and paste it into the sunflow.bat file replacing the default "@set javadir" path.
@set javadir="insert JDK dir here"

besten Dank, ja habe hier noch keine Erfahrung mit diesen Programmen. habe gesehen, daß Du auch mit Maxwell schon Structure Synth sachen gerendert hast. Wie funktioniert das? ich dachte es können nur sunflow oder blender diese objekte rendern. kann ich auch als obj exportieren? könntest Du mir ausserdem vielleicht einen Tip geben, wo ich die Renderqualität in Sunflow ändern kann bzw. verbessern kann. die standards sind doch etwas verrauscht oder "körnig". besten dank im voraus und Gruß Markus

Hallo, du brauchst ein Phyton-script Plug-in für Blender, um StrucSynth ggs-Dateien
importieren zu können. Habe ich im Netz gefunden: [link]
Kopieren und speichern unter Dokumente und Einstellungen/User/Anwendungsdaten/Blender...
Mit der Endung: .py . Nach dem importieren, kannst du als
OBJ exportieren!
Zu Sunflow: Die .sc Datei zb. mit Notepad öffnen und die Sample-zahl erhöhen ( zb. bei GI, aber auch
beim Amb-Occ shader - für einen guten Endrender würde ich auf über 1000 Samples erhöhen )

besten Dank für die Tips! Ich erhalte 2 Meldungen beim Start von Sunflow: "JVM memory is below 800 MB. make sure you launch program with xmx command line options."
Die andere Meldung:
"you are not appearing running Suns Server JVM - performance may suffer"
Hättest Du hierzu vielleicht einen Tip für mich, sorry für die vielen Fragen...habe hier nicht so die Erfahrung. Gruß Markus

Hallo, Ich stehe gerne mit Tips zur Verfügung, habe aber mit Sunflow selber
kaum Erfahrung. Ich habe das gleiche Problem wie du beim Start - was ich
dazu gefunden/gelesen hatte, habe ich leider auch nicht verstanden. Da Ich
trotzdem mit der Performance zufrieden war, habe ich diesen Punkt einfach
ignoriert. Ich werde aber bei Gelegenheit nochmal nachforschen. Habe mir
selbst grade ZBrush auf den Tisch gelegt, und bin damit seit 10 Tagen voll
beschäftigt... Ich wäre aber auf längere Sicht auch erfreut mich über Sunflow
etwas austauschen zu können. Das Programm hat in jedem Fall einzigartige Möglichkeiten.

Ja, genau wie bei mir. Die Performance ist ok, trotz der Meldungen. Erstmal einfach ignorieren. Besten Dank für die Tips! Und viel Vergnügen mit ZBrush. Ich finde das Programm mittlerweile unglaublich komplex mit all den neuen Funktionen in den Versionen 3 und 4. Man braucht fast ein eigenes Gehirn nur für dieses eine Programm, es ist dermaßen einzigartig und gewöhnungsbedürftig...der Wahnsinn! So geht es mir zumindest in letzter Zeit. Es ist fast unmöglich, alles darin zu können und zu wissen. Es ist wirklich -im Vergleich zu anderen Programmen- eine eigen Welt. Und das Interface....puuuuuhhh...auch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig und verschachtelt. Aber trotzdem sind die Möglichkeiten damit natürlich genauso einzigartig, muß man auf der anderen Seite auch sagen...In diesem Sinne. Gruß
