Description
Drawing has been very slow with work being rather intense and all so I went back to one of LethalChris instructional videos; lion drawing this time. I feel like it turned out ok apart from the mane which is very proportional or shaped correctly. I'm hoping to get back on track with drawing and my goal is to devote at least an hour a day to it to begin with. Ideas and examples of how you ladies and gents (along with the 78 other pronouns) deal with a slump in motivation are welcome. Cheers!Related content

Hi!
Motivational slumps can be a bitch. I remember writing a poem in college about how I had no creativity left. How wrong I was. We all go through these ups and downs.
I think the problem is that art should come from an inner need to express something and not a need to produce something. One of the most creative bursts I had was after I left the city and took a bus trip for 2 days through the center of Mexico. I and saw fields, farms, highways and byways. I returned and produced many paintings based on what I saw on the trip.
I hope you can have a stimulating experience soon that will demand that you express it creatively.
BTW I'm listening to Ethio jazz as I write this.
Thank you my friend.

Hey, here I am after... I don't even know how long. I haven't actually stopped drawing, just stopped posting it on DA, mostly out of laziness/lack of time. I had been battling for a promotion at work for a long time and when I got it, suddenly I have zero free time left. Couple that with troubles featuring a girlfriend who now feels neglected and my nigh non existent will to go out during the weekends and you get my current tired old man mentality.
Luckily I didn't quite neglect my drawing so I have scribbled a few things each month and loved the process every time I managed it, vowing to keep doing at least an hour each day but alas... It isn't so simple.
I'm listening to remastered soundtracks of poems written by J.R.R. Tolkien and they are quite a find for me as a fan of that fantasy universe but probably for anyone else who fancies that genre of music.
Cheers!

Hey there!
I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering if you had crawled into a cave somewhere.
Congraqtulations and condolences on the ups and downs of your life. I totally understand you're not wanting to go out on the weekends. I'm the same way and my friends think I'm a real party pooper. I was reminiscing on the bus today about all the wild times I had when I first came to Mexico. I used to throw wild parties and go carousing all weekend, and now I just paint and post and read.
Don't give up on drawing. You're young and there will be plenty of time. I'm happy to know you still do it, even if you don't post on dA.
Never got into Tolkien, but I'm happy that you're enjoying your find of his poems.
BTW, the socialists won big in the election here and now control everything. Stupid symbolic acts are happening at light speed. The right has gone underground and are offering no resistance. 2019 should be an interesting year.
Merry Christmas Fran. Good to hear from you again.

No caves, only the office but I suppose that is somewhat similar. Especially during these winter months when it's dark when I go to work and dark when I leave, so it certainly feels like a cave.
I don't dislike going out but I just get tired too quickly to be fun for my group of friends who still don't really have "proper jobs", which means they never lost that party stamina I used to have back in my college days. I had hoped all that time off would make me a cheap drunk but no, it still takes a fifth of hard liquor (if I manage not to doze off, that is.)
Yeah, I heard about Mexico and the new government. The main question is, are you guys ready to pay for The Wall? Politics were always a clown show but these days it just seems way out of hand. Trump is seems like a solid step towards the fulfillment of the movie Idiocracy (if you've seen it), France is burning, half of South America never really stopped burning and my own little homeland once again spent billions on 30 year old fighter jets that will never fly. Like we actually have something to defend. After all, 30% of the millennial population moved out of Croatia permanently in the last 10 years.
Merry Christmas to you too, take care.

Thanks. I was thinking about emigrating to Croatia, but I have since reconsidered.
We are living in parallel universes. Your life sounds similar to mine, down to the hard drink They play the national anthem here at 6 am and 12 midnight and some days I hear it both times. Like you, Ive got those dwds (dont work dont study) friends also, living off the paternal fortune, party all the time. Sorry, those days are behind me. 3 am used to be my bedtime; now its closer to the time I need to wake up and go to work.
Mexico has a special light, even during the winter, since it is basically an isthmus and when the sun rises it illuminates most of the country until sunset. I hated California because of its geographical location. Winter days were short because of the morning fog which sometimes lasted until 1 pm. Sunset came at 4:30. No wonder I was depressed there.
Trump, like Duterte and Orban, is the result of years of bad governemnts that failed those they governed. Im surprised there hasnt been a second French revolution yet, let alone an American one, but they may not be far off.

Croatia is great if you have plenty of money but otherwise... I wouldn't really recommend it.
Is the national anthem thing new or is that one of those borderline propaganda methods that dictators like to use?
I always though California was sunny throughout the whole year. I have a few friends who lived there and they said the constant sun was starting to get on their nerves. Then again, they were in San Diego and California is huge so obviously it's not the same everywhere.
The French are really pushing for a true revolution (guillotine on the square included) but the media is doing a great job at depicting the yellow coats as the bad guys who just loot, burn and fight. I have to admit the Americans are going to rebel against anyone or anything. They are too busy fighting among themselves about which political party is more corrupt, gay rights/abortion/immigrants, oh and sports. Can't forget about sports, because my group of millionaires playing with a ball is better than your group of millionaires trying to steal our ball.

I just returned from 2 months in the US and I can confirm that the Americans still love watching millionaires try to get the ball. That and taking massive amounts of opiods, eating fatty food and shopping online. Take away all of those things and you may see a revolution. France is different. Not traditionally a country of immigrants, France is now overrun with new arrivals from all over the globe. If it is to survive, there will be a revolution indeed. In the US, unless Trump is successful, the country dies.
Your friends are partially right about California. That is, when the sun is shining, it's hot from sunup to sundown. Also, there is a dry climate in winter, so there are many pleasant days in December. You're right, California is huge with many climate zones.
One more thing about Croatia...I did a search of Croat images and everyone looked beautiful. Is this a generalization, that Croats are very good looking?

Sure but why would anyone take away what keeps Rom... I mean, Americans in check? Certain governing tactics just never go out of style. Well, to be fair, France was the second biggest colonial power after Great Britain so it is a bit of a kick in the karma that they are getting overrun by undesired refugees. I like how Switzerland handles their immigration, if you don't fully assimilate, you can kindly fuck off.
Croatia has a very strong marketing strategy so most of the pictures you find have been placed there for a reason, and that reason is to promote tourism. However, having traveled a fair bit myself, I have to say Croats and people from the Balkans in general are among the better looking people out there. We're among the tallest nations in the world, second to the Netherlands in Europe and I think 3rd overall. Having acted as a physical barrier between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman for over 200 years has bred some hardy folks around those parts. Of course, there's a fair share of hillbilly equivalents but with less obesity and incest.

I am trying to get back into a regular routine of drawing, I wish I had kept at it when I was around 17 because who knows where I would have been now...oh well.
Great sketch by the way, love the eyes!

Yeah, I know how you feel but what's done is done. The best thing to do is to make the most of the time we have now. Thanks for the compliment

"78 other pronouns" xD Personally I force myself to draw at least once every day so I can keep practicing, but as for motivation I don't really know. I hope someone here's got good advice because I need some too The lion is gorgeous! I especially love his eyes and nose. His entire face looks awesome, and I'd say the mane looks great as well

Ok, not 78, for the sake of accuracy I went and looked it up. There are only 54 I don't have a problem with motivation when I'm off work but during workdays it's tough for me to focus during the hour or two that I manage to set aside for drawing, if I even manage that. It's strange because my goal is to only draw about an hour or two a day so that amount of time should be fine but somehow I don't like being so constricted and end up not doing it at all, which is totally counter productive

Haha, good to know there are 54! I feel the same way about work. It does feel very constricting on top of everything you have to do in a single day, but on weekends or off-days I don't really feel pressured to draw something because I have a good amount of time. I hope it gets easier for you
