Description
I don't know if you guys got to check out my first "How to Draw Street Fighting Warriors" but I'm coming out with a new installment this fall. For the cover I just put together my wish list and drew it.
A Big Zangief type wrestler with Chun's moves...
A C.Viper/Guile mash-up...
A Dhalsim/Rose mash-up... (She can be a fire swami or something)
And a Guy/Ryu mash up...
I wish Capcom did stuff like this... instead of shotos shotos and more shotos...
almost forgot (and since some asked) the first "How to Draw(and defeat) Street Fighting Warriors"
It's focus is on: the character design process, defining anatomy with rough pencils, work flow, and basic fight scene construction.
This new one is going to expand character design but focus a lot more on single image and comic-panel fight scene construction and pacing and dramatic story-telling.

I am so totally going to buy this book ! I'm interested to see what your characters will look like, and if these are any indication, it's going to be awesome
!
Personally, I like the C.Viper/Guile mash-up, but that's just me . She looks totally badass, and I bet she'd be awesome to fight as too. Do any of these guys have names/move-lists?

Yeah, I'm using this book as a chance to make my fantasy fighting game characters. Both mash-ups and originals. The fun side is I get to explain how I create them and how I put scenes together using them!

Bro, these are awesome and SF wishes they had this lineup! No wonder you are my favorite action/martial arts comic artist ever!!! Your characters
are the most enjoyable I've seen in a comic. Not only are pure awesomeness in their skills, but their personalities just make the stories pure fun!
congrats, and a fave!

Good God am I bored of shotos. When they announced Yun and Yang for the SSF4 expansion, I was pretty excited, wondering who else they might bring in, then... MORE FUCKING SHOTOS. Did not get it. I don't even know if it's out yet or not. Don't care, don't see how I could care less. The shoto clones tend to always be the most bland characters, easy to play though they are. I get how it's good for a game to have that entry level character that's easy to get into and so get your foot in the door and learn about the cool things a game offers while not feeling utterly incompetent, but Capcom just went WAY overboard with the characters type and the ceaseless horde of shoto opponents is what killed my interest in playing SSF4 online.

Also, very nice ideas you had there, if the huge Chun He guy is maybe a LITTLE bit questionable. lol What with you mentioning, and me hating, the shoto, I wonder what kind of moves the Guyryu would have...

In the Street Fighter series "shotos" or "shoto-clones" are characters who have the same basic move set of fireball, uppercut, and tornado kick. Capcom tends to put in a lot of what are essentially variations of the same character.

Some weird combos (like Zangief and Chun Li), but a great piecture. Sorry if I ask, but what do you mean with "shotos"?

SilverScarCat In reply to ParadoxReign [2011-04-30 13:56:20 +0000 UTC]
Ken, Ryu, Akuma, Dan, Sakura, Gouken, Sean, and Sagat are all "Shoto-clones", that is, fireball, dragon punch, some version of hurricane kick (Or Hadoken, Shoryuken and Tatsumekisenpyaku) as their specials, all with similar stances and attacks.
Good all around, but it *IS* dull to fight them over and over and over in games.

ParadoxReign In reply to SilverScarCat [2011-04-30 14:43:37 +0000 UTC]
Ah, I see. Well, from this point of view, it is true that this gets fast tired, not only that this style is copied in several other fighting games. Who know, maybe Capcom or a different company will surprises us sooner or later. It would be great.

SilverScarCat In reply to ParadoxReign [2011-04-30 15:12:09 +0000 UTC]
Yeah.
Personally, I prefer King of Fighters, because even though there is the "Shoto-clone" aspect in terms of techniques, the characters are different enough with their styles that no one's a complete copy.
Even if they use the same basic style. (Terry, Andy, Geese, Rock all play differently even though they all have the same base style. Iori and Kyo play similar, but their moves have changed enough over the years that they're not clones of each other.)

ParadoxReign In reply to SilverScarCat [2011-04-30 16:44:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know the series and I have to agree that the characters are having a bigger variaty than in Street Fighter. That almost every character can through a fireball makes the game a bit boring and in some cases even too easy to play if you spam with them your opponents.
Plus, the characters of Street Fighter are looking like they would misuse anabolic steriods ^_^ Compares to this, the characters in King of Fighters are much better and more realistic... especially Mai XD

SilverScarCat In reply to ParadoxReign [2011-04-30 21:40:56 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. even KoF characters that can't throw fireballs are still top-tier. Heh...
Though, Terry vs Ryu would make for an interesting manga. *nod*
