Description
So I made it to express my unhappiness with the fact that people are using makers to make basic designs and selling them for 10-20 points.Knock it off. D:<
The fact is clicking buttons is not hard at all. Hell, you can just click the random button and there you go. It's the equivalent to getting paid 20$ so pull one weed in a yard.
I mean, sheesh people. It's insulting. 'LOL made this in five clicks, GIMME 20 POINTS'. As opposed to the artists who actually TRY.
Take this into consideration. If you use a line art with a good design you are making at LEAST 100 to 200 clicks to color it, add the markings, make them look good, add small details, and make a finished product. If you use your own lines you're easily doubling that.
So, a basic design on a lineart is 100 clicks. You make 5 clicks and charge the same, if not more for it. HOW DOES THAT WORK?!
Lets go for 10 points as the price of the linearted adopt (I normally only charge five, I'm being generous) You are getting one tenth of a point per click. For the maker you are getting 2 points per click at the same price.
>[ Stop it. Sell your maker adopts in bundles. Ten for one point. Thats a fair price. Think it's too low? Get off your lazy bum and make your own!
'Oh but I can't color well! D,: Poor mee!' HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT TO GET BETTER WITHOUT PRACTICE?!
Thats what DA is about. Practice and artistic improvement. By using makers in loo of practicing is an insult to DA and all it's principles. Either charge a fair price or make your own.

Making a sheet of 20 adopts and selling them, each taking a single click of a random button, will net them 5$ Assuming the time it takes them to screencap and put each one on a screen is.. maybe 5 minutes, that is, potentially, 60$ for an hours worth of making the adoptable sheets. 12 sheets of 20 adoptables. Quarters add up fast. My mom used to wait tables and would let me have all the quarters she got and I easily made 30$ every three or four days that way. Sure, they may not sell EVERY adoptable, but you can see how mass producing would create quite a bit of income. They are like the 25 cent chicken wings at Pizza hut. Sure, they don't sell for much, but they sell a LOT.ย
Compared to someone who takes time? Yeah.. That's still too much to pay for something I could create myself for free. Just because they aren't making 'much' doesn't mean they still aren't getting overpaid for cookie cutter maker stuff. And my other points about how it kills the drive to become a better artists to sell things easier still stands.ย

I am not very good at making adoptables, and sometimes I make my work with makers, but I don't sell my 'maker-made' work. I only use those to show, not to sell. For adoptables, I use dAmuro. All the things I have that are 'maker-made' are just things I made by playing around, and I only sell (as adoptables) things I made myself. I draw in real life and in computer, but I never sell ANYTHING I don't make myself. The people who sell maker-made things for 100+ points need to know that (I think) those were maker-made, they'll demand their points back as a full refund. "Oh, poor me! I can't color well! I can barely hold a crayon!" You can totally hold a crayon. By the time your 13 and you can't hold a crayon, that's just insane. Learn how to draw, people! If you can't draw or write, why'd you join deviantart? To make people have pity on you?
I 75% agree with this stamp. The 25% I do not agree with is if you are selling them in bundle (like you said) for 10 adopts per point. Honestly, it's ok if you make the base yourself and just make the rest using the same base, but with a maker? Really?

Yep, exactly what I was thinking. How do you expect to learn when you don't even try? There is no magical art beam that beams you talent.

I totally agree, I saw one of those sell at an auction for more than 50 points which is a lot considering I can make the same design myself withing less than 5 minutes on that game. Thats why I draw myself. That way my adoptables are a bit more personal and unique. Those games are good for fun though

FrostCoveredFields In reply to Nickersadopts [2012-05-18 01:25:50 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. I think people just feel obliged to buy it, or else they'd feel like they were stealing it.
I find it hilarious that this is my most popular deviation. XD Been nearly a year since I posted it.. Still just being discovered. XDD

Its silly, especially since there is only so many combinations and patterns to pick from. I hit the random button on that game and there was quite a few that looked alike. Particully the ones with preset colour schemes.
Yeah its not uncommon for a stamp to be so poppular.

Personally, I don't feel entitled to judge others' artwork. That's why I disagree with this stamp's message 100%. I have nothing else to write to you.

FrostCoveredFields In reply to HopeSwings777 [2011-12-26 01:07:57 +0000 UTC]
This stamp has nothing to do with a persons artwork. It's about the fact that people have been using image makers (like this; [link] ) and then selling the designs for 20 or more points. Instead of making their own art or coloring lines and acutually gaining artistic talent they are clicking a few buttons and making profit.
So either you misunderstood the message of this stamp (whether you didn't read my description or just missed the entire point) or you consider clicking a single button or less as 'making art'. Maker art isn't the problem. It's the people who charge outrageous prices for something that is very easily makable. One person just the other day was charging 20 points for a 'custom' that you could make on a FREE maker for yourself.
If you still have a disagreement then thats your own problem. The entire point was that an adoptable maker is not a replacement for your own skills. If you think art should be a pre-made push button affair then you're in the wrong place. ^^

Not only that you didnยดt put effort in it, you are also selling opther peoples art

That's so true. I make my own lines and color them myself. And after that i sell them for 10-20 point..

It is. I seen some maker adoptables selling for 30 points at one time and was just like.. this is ridiculous. Just because you /can/ doesn't mean you should.
