Y'know, first I have to apologise for the awful artwork. I won't attempt this way of doing things again (pen tool, procrastination and probably RSI), so any future comics I do will be either properly attempted tablet drawings, or traditional stuff (nothing beats pencil and paper, eh?). My character looks nothing like I want him to here...
Secondly, I'll have a ref up, don't you worry.
Well, this is an audition for FutureBattlesOCT. I decided not to use Useless and VOX this time round, but instead a guy called Malcolm, who I've been tirelessly debating about whether or not to let him loose. But hey, I haven't spent the last two days solidly working on this thing for nothing, right? Right?
If you couldn't tell already, Malcolm just happens to be passing through. It might be a good while before anybody notices he's there... Plus, he's in the outskirts of the city. Does Vegas have abandoned outskirts? Well, I imagine it does in 2147. I also imagine that the perpetual ground-level smog makes it difficult for the residents to walk around with decent visibility. As such, they stick to the roof-level walkways, where the air's a bit clearer. Also, hovercars sounded like a cool idea.

do you mind if i ask how you do .. what you do xD i know its not a very specific question, but like, what did you use to make this? did you draw it on paper first?
im trying my best to improve my own art and comic strips, so do you have any tips or anything?

Hey mate! Well generally:
1. I script everything I want to include in the section of the comic I'm working on, but don't plan how many pages I'm going to use.
2. I translate my script into speech bubble placements on the canvas I'm going to work on. If there doesn't happen to be enough room on the canvas, I find a point in the script that won't disrupt to flow of the story if I interrupt it, and then continue mapping on a new document/page.
3. I map panels, cut 'em out of a filled black layer. Then outline in FireAlpaca (it has an über neat correction variable that smoothens your lines, I think PaintTool SAI has the same feature)
4. Block fills of colour. Then a 57%-ish opacity Multiply layer in which I use a medium grey and black to do stuff like shadows. Then a 60%-ish Overlay/Screen/Soft Light etc. layer which I add white to for highlights.
5. Lastly, I bring it back into Photoshop. Type out the text first before adding the speech bubbles behind them. Then SFX or anything extra.

Nice entry, you set up the character really well, this is a cool entry. Might I suggest adding a little less headshots and closeups, it makes the comic feel a little cramped. (That's a problem I still need to work on too)

Yeah, I know. I was restricting a lot of wider shots because I wasn't illustrating it as traditional art, or even taking tablet drawing seriously. It shan't happen again though, promise

Nice entry!!! I loved the time and effort you put into it ^^ Can't wait to see Malcolm's ref punched out, and he looks like Kalr but yet not like Karl XDD Just like my character Nico did, but I just threw stuff on him and he became his own ma- I mean statue XD So great work ^W^ and good luck to you!!!!
