Backstory:
Aphrodite was one of four APBT puppies born on February 15th. Her parents were fighting dogs, causing many potential buyers to look elsewhere rather than take a chance on a potentially aggressive dog. By the time the pups turned 8 weeks old there were still no buyers willing to take on a game bred dog. In desperation, the breeder put up signs and fliers for free puppies and Aphrodite's littermates were quickly claimed.
Noah noticed one of these advertisements on his way home from a race. He decided to take a detour and drove to the address on the flier. He was in no position to be taking on new animals, but he gave the breeder his number with a promise that he'd take any puppies that didn't find homes.
Six weeks later he received a call that one of the pups was still available. Noah immediately drove over and fell in love with the remaining puppy, naming her Aphrodite because she was the most beautiful dog he'd ever seen. Perhaps he was a bit biased, after all, Aphrodite was scrawny and awkward, constantly tripping over her own feet. Sometimes it seemed like her back end wasn't cooperating with her front end, sending her tumbling to the ground.
Noah had always wanted a dog of his own but never had time between clients and maintaining a social life. When he bought Blue Barn Pastures he'd hoped to have his own rescue and rehabilitation center, but dealing with Phoenix left him with an empty bank account and a growing sense of defeat. When Noah brought Leech home, he'd hoped the Coyote could fill the role of loyal companion he so desperately longed for, but Leech preferred the company of food to other living beings. Now, with Aphrodite, he could have a bit of compensation for throwing his money, job, and dreams out the window for the sake of a traumatized equine.
