Description A wicked fleecing perpetrated by, say it with me, P. T. Barnum. Brilliant and calculating showman that he was, he raked in the dough on this shenanigan, vouching for its authenticity until within shouting distance of the end, at which point he did an about-face and confessed, big surprise, that it was fake.

From the sign at Ripley's Odditorium in Orlando, Florida: "This curious was once exhibited as a genuine mermaid. In 1842, thousands of people paid 25 cents to see P. T. Barnum's "Fiji Mermaid". Barnum insisted the mermaid was genuine until, in his old age, he admitted that this "mermaid" was just an ingenious fusing of the upper half of a monkey and the lower half of a fish!" Oh, the wonders of taxidermy.

Bloody flash.

PT Barnum had a "Fiji mermaid" that was a fish and a monkey sewn together, right?

Kinda reminded me a bit of that.
