Description
Celestial taleA being, unable to be called human, floated in the sky above a small townhouse. The townhouse did not appear any different than those around it, yet the being watched it intently. The being was a 'teenaged girl' with pale purple hair that reached the small of her back, bangs framing her face beautifully, eyes soft brown. What made her so inhuman, beyond the hair colour, were the large white wings spread from her shoulder blades and skin so pale she looked like she should have been dead. Her outfit consisted of a tight fitting sleeveless bright blue shirt that reached to a few inches below her chest, her chest itself covered by a thick strip of hot pink fabric that went all around her chest and back, and a bright blue skirt that barely covered what it had to. On her head was what was once a bright blue tunic trimmed in hot pink, but the end had been cut so her hair fell freely from the bottom, hot pink fabric making a large bow at the back. Her left elbow length fingerless glove was bright blue while the other was the pink of the fabric trimming her head piece, the nails of the hand covered by the blue glove was pink and vice versa. Her mid-thigh length boots were the same as her gloves, the left blue and the right pink.
"Where is he...he's going to be late at this rate..." The being murmured, sounding displeased. Three thousand years watching a person meant you knew a lot about them, and the person she happened to be watching was never late. She was about to go into the townhouse when a boy in his early teen years burst from it, calling back that he'd be home after school, and sped down the street. He had chin length black hair and storm grey eyes, his outfit consisting of a sleeveless black muscle shirt with a grey vest overtop and black pants with a grey belt. His shoes were, expectedly, also grey. The being that had been waiting for the boy flew towards where she needed to be to meet him, landing there a few minutes before he'd get there.
Her body was encased in white light, and when it was gone she no longer stood where she'd been. In her place was a girl of the same age as the boy, hip length hair a pale blonde with bangs cut to just above her eyes and said eyes an equally pale blue. Her outfit was a long, flowing white dress with short and slightly puffy sleeves, a gold stripe of fabric around her waist. The fancy but flat white shoes showed some of her feet, twin white anklets on each leg, and a beautiful white choker with a golden four point flower in the middle. Her left hand had a pink bead bracelet on it.
"Grace!" The boy called, drawing the girl's attention. She smiled at him happily.
"There you are Cole! For a minute there I thought you might be late..." Grace admitted.
"Me, Cole Black, late?! Never I say, Grace Angél, never!" Cole said dramatically, causing Grace to laugh a bit.
"That won't last long if we don't get going, come on." She said, Cole nodding and the two began their trip towards their public school. They talked about everything under the sun, including the graduation that would soon be coming up for grade 8 students like them, as well as who they thought would actually make something of their lives of the people in the grade 8 year...out of the one hundred and seventy-five students graduating, only about twenty were on their list, not including themselves.
~At School, Lunch Time, in an Unused Room of the School~
"Now we just need a picture for the cutest couple of the grade 8 students graduating..." A female said to the rest of the planning committee. Their public school was similar to high school in a way, as all grade 8 students who were graduating got a yearbook, with all the clubs and top students and who-would-become-what lists. Every year one page was dedicated to the cutest couple out of those students, only problem was that there was no exceptionally cute couple that year.
"What about Grace Angél and Cole Black?" Another girl asked suddenly, drawing attention to herself.
"I mean, I don't know if they're...well, an item, but I do know that they're always together and look sorta cute together." She explained.
"The white that Grace wears does work well with all the black and grey Cole wears...and her innocent appears also works well with his tough guy look..." Another girl agreed.
"So it's agreed! Grace Angél and Cole Black will be this year's cutest graduating couple!" The first girl exclaimed, the other cheering. The supervising teacher knew this couldn't end well...
~With Grace and Cole~
"To think, just a few more days and we'll be out of this school for good...sorta an odd feeling, isn't it?" Grace asked as she and Cole walked around the school aimlessly. They'd been doing this for the past week, wanting to memorise every part of the school where they had met and become friends, and that they'd spent a large chunk of their lives at.
"Yeah...it feels like just yesterday that we met in JK..." Cole admitted, Grace nodding. Grace hadn't been the kind of girl who had still slept with stuffed animals when she began school, or at all as far as Cole knew, and when she didn't bring one for nap time she got picked on by some of the other kids. It was Cole who had stuck up for her, and the two had been friends ever since.
"I miss those days...everything was so simple back then, the most we had to worry about was what snack we'd be getting from the teacher during snack time...now we have our whole lives ahead of us, but it seems like it's closing in so fast, like we're running out of time too quickly..." Grace's voice became quieter as she continued until her voice was barely a whisper, Cole having to struggle greatly to hear her even if he was right beside her. Even though Grace appeared sweet and innocent she was actually really insightful, had been since Cole had known her.
"Don't worry Grace, everything will be fine, you'll see. Just relax and take things slow, we still have plenty of time." Cole assured his friend, causing her to smile a bit, he'd calmed her down from her small panic attack. They were becoming more frequent lately, but since they'd be going into high school once the summer was over, it didn't surprise Cole in the least.
"Yeah...thanks Cole." Grace said, hugging her friend, who smiled a bit and hugged her back. The two were momentarily blinded when a flash of light came from beside them, causing them to turn when they could see again. Anna James, leader of that year's grade 8 yearbook committee and granddaughter of the teacher Mrs. James of the nearby high school, stood there with a large smirk and a camera in her hand. It didn't take long for Cole and Grace to realise what had happened.
"Why did you take a picture of us Anna?" Cole growled and Annie only smirked wider.
"Why, for the cutest couple page of the yearbook of course!" Annie exclaimed happily. Grace and Cole took a moment to process that information, and the moment they did Grace was blushing badly.
"W-we're not a couple Anna! W-we're just best friends!" Grace cried, looking rather flustered while Cole just looked ticked off.
"Well you look like a couple to me...and the cutest one of the grade 8s too! So you're going to be our cutest couple, like it or not." Anna said with that smirk of hers, running off before Cole's anger could get the better of him. He was enraged, and Grace was a blushing and babbling mess.
"Ignore her Grace...clearly they couldn't find their couple so they made one. I mean, me and you? Too bad for her, but it's never going to happen." Cole said, Grace looking at him for a moment before calming down and nodding. He noticed that she looked upset, and was about to ask why when she spoke up instead.
"I'm not feeling very well...I think what Annie said made me feel nauseous, I'm going to see if I can go home. I'll see you tomorrow." She muttered and left before Cole could get in a word.
~Outside the School~
"Come on Ananchel...don't let this get to you so much. It's Umbra, he's hated you from the day his sister died...it's no shock that he would say something like that to you, even if he doesn't know that Grace Angél is really me." The purple haired being muttered to herself. She was sitting atop the school building, unseen by the humans who walked by, waiting for school to end so she could follow Cole home and then just put a barrier around him or something and go. She'd been sitting there since she left the school, nearly three and a half hours ago, trying to keep herself from crying.
"I hope Grace is ok..." She heard, looking down suddenly to see Cole. He was looking back and forth nervously, as if afraid of being spotted. Then he looked straight at her and frowned before black light enveloped him. In his place was a boy of about the same age, black spiky hair and grey eyes. His outfit was honestly no different from Cole's, though his skin was a bit paler and black wings spread from his back.
"Umbra would never love...the one who caused his dear sister's death..." Ananchel murmured before he flew up to her, frown still in place.
"What are you doing here, Ananchel?" Umbra growled lowly, clearly unhappy with seeing her, his voice like venom when he said her name.
"That's a dumb question, Umbra. I'm watching over you, like I have for the past three thousand years. It was your sister's dying wish...she was my best friend, if nothing else I'll protect you like she wanted, little half breed." Ananchel said, looking bored. They had this conversation every day, and it was beginning to annoy her in all honesty, but this was the only reason he'd even talk to her at all. Cruel, how fate seemed to hate her.
"You're the reason Ness died in the first place." Umbra reminded her harshly, causing Ananchel to have to stop herself from flinching. Umbra was raised to hate her kind, even though his mother had been one of Ananchel's kind as well...the death of his sister only made him hate her more.
"I did nothing to cause her death, that was your mother's fault. She disobeyed Father, and had to pay the price." Ananchel said, using the line she'd been telling both herself and him for the past three thousand years...not that either of them actually believed that line.
"You celestials are all the same, only caring about yourselves...my mother was stripped of her powers and memories for her 'betrayal' so why did my sister have to pay?" Umbra snarled, finally letting a bit of his true rage out. This conversation was lasting longer then Ananchel had hoped it would, and though she wouldn't show it, she was happy he was talking to her for so long.
"Because, little half breed, your kind aren't supposed to exist. You would have been dead too, if not for me. So I expect you to speak to me with some respect." Ananchel said without thinking. What she'd said only seemed to make Umbra all the madder, and Ananchel knew that now was the time to end the conversation.
"You shouldn't be so angry, Umbra...it doesn't become you." She said before disappearing.
