Description
"Belldonna Nitmar?" The teacher asked, not looking up from the attendance."Here." Belldonna said immediately, the teacher nodding before going on.
"Cole Black?" He asked a minute or two later, Cole saying the same as Belldonna and the teacher nodding again.
"Grace Angél?" Mr. Smith finally asked. Rather than replying like all her classmates, Grace was staring out the window in an apparent trance and not hearing him.
"Grace Angél?" He repeated, looking up and seeing her looking out the window.
"Ms. Angél!" The old teacher snapped, bringing Grace's attention to him instantly.
"...Here." She said after a few seconds, smiling sheepishly and apologising to him. The annoyance on Mr. Smith's face disappeared and he looked worriedly at the secret celestial.
"Ms. Angél...would you please go out into the hall, I would like to speak to you." The old mane told her, Grace nodding and doing as told.
"Everyone, please speak amongst yourselves, I have to talk to Ms. Angél." He stated, the class nodding before he left the room.
~Outside the Classroom~
"Sorry about that Mr. Smith, I didn't mean to ignore you like that." Grace apologised, the teacher nodding before letting the worry show again.
"Tell me...is there something wrong at home Grace?" The teacher asked, his worry not n his voice and the teen inwardly groaned, as the teacher only used first names without using last names after it when he knew something was wrong.
"Well Mr. Smith...my dad got a new job so I'll...be leaving the town once the graduation ceremony is done." Grace explained hesitantly. Mr. Smith nodded, expressing his sadness that one of his best students wouldn't be attending the local high school, while Grace assured him that she would if she could.
"...Have you told Mr. Black yet?" Mr. Smith asked suddenly, the blonde girl's eyes falling to look at her feet. She didn't have to say anything for the teacher to know the answer.
"Don't you think he has the right to know, with how long you've known each other?" He asked her and was surprised by the sudden harsh look in her eyes.
"I'm already being replaced." Grace said coldly, pointing inside the room. The teacher looked through the small window in the door, seeing Cole and Belldonna talking, realising that it reminded him greatly of how the boy and Grace would usually talk. Belldonna was even sitting on her desk and looking up at the standing Cole like Grace always did, though Grace would sit in a far more feminine way.
"So you are..." Mr. Smith murmured, looking shocked.
"I doubt he'll even notice that I'm gone..." The secret celestial grumbled coldly. Mr. Smith looked at her in pity, the two re-entering the classroom once Grace's voice returned to normal.
~Inside the Classroom~
"You ok Grace? It's not like you to zone out like that." Cole said while Grace sat at her desk, rather than on it, a sign that she didn't feel like talking to Cole at that time.
"...I'm fine." The girl said after a moment, her voice distant as she turned and looked through the window once more.
~After School, Outside~
"Grace, want to walk home with me?" Cole asked, the blonde looking dully at him.
"I have to pick out a graduation dress, the ceremony is only two days away Cole." Grace pointed out coldly, Cole looking shocked at the way she was being towards him.
"I'm sure that girl...Belldonna?...will love to walk home with you." She added, pretending not to know the name, before walking in the opposite direction of her 'home'.
~The Next Day, in the Classroom~
"Tomorrow is the graduation ceremony...you may all do whatever you wish today and tomorrow, just be sure to stay out of trouble." Mr. Smith said, the class cheering. Grace and Belldonna both got up at the same time, Belldonna going over to Cole while Grace left the room without a word.
"Is Grace always like that?" The black haired girl asked, looking at the door Grace had left from. She looked at Cole, seeing him looking worried.
"No...Grace has never acted like that before yesterday..." Cole stated, Belldonna smirking inwardly.
Oh...this is going to be fun. The girl thought, her inward smirk widening.
~With Grace~
Grace walked through the silent halls of the school. She was vaguely wondering why she came to school that dat, or at least why she'd gone to school in the useless form if Cole couldn't care less.
"Oh well...only one more day of this and it will be like this form never existed as far as any human is concerned." She grumbled, already having everything set up.
"What about the real you? Will you still be watching Umbra?" Lucifer asked from behind her, sounding hopeful that she answer would be no.
"No...not the way I have been anyway." Grace stated with a voice so cold Lucifer flinched. He nodded in understanding and disappeared, feeling the darkness of the person the celestial and demon had been speaking of.
"...Grace?" Cole asked the blonde. She turned and looked at him with dull, lifeless eyes.
"What is it?" Grace asked emotionlessly. The tone wasn't one he'd heard from her before and it made him feel angry.
"Why are you being so cold to me all of a sudden?" He snapped at her, hoping to cause her to show emotion, even if it was just rage.
"Can't you figure that out?" Grace asked, her voice belittling rather than emotionless.
"I was the first person you ever met at school, and I only stayed by your side because you had no other friends. That's not true anymore, thanks to Belldonna. Let me spell it out for you. I don't like you, I have never liked you. I am not going to pretend anymore." The blonde lied coldly, leaving Cole standing alone and shocked in the hallway.
~The Next Day, at the Graduation Ceremony~
"Today we feel both sadness and joy to see another group of fine young people leave the walls of this school and move on to bigger, greater things." The principle of the school, Mr. Hill, said with his voice cracking. This was due to the fact that his youngest daughter, Susan Hill, was graduating with the rest of the grade eight students. Honestly though, no one was really paying any attention to his speech, no one ever did.
"I now call the chosen representative of the grade eight students, Grace Angél!" He called, the crowd applauding as the blonde stood up and walked onto the stage. She was wearing a long, sleeveless white dress with a tight top and loose, frilly skirt. Her gloves, reaching half way between her elbows and shoulders, were gold along with her high heels. Her hair was tied in a bun at the back of her hair, only the strands that always framed her face loose. Cole stared at her, the outfit so non-Grace it was sickening, yet so Ananchel it made his heart race.
"There are so many things I could say about my life at this school..." Grace began, her usually soft voice carrying easily through the gym that held the ceremony even without a microphone as the town was too poor to get one.
"The friends, experiences and learning...but then this ceremony would be a lot longer. So, instead of all that, I'll simply say this. My time here was the most enjoyable moments of my life. I thank everyone, staff and students alike, for making this time the happiest of my life. And I think that I speak for all grade eights here when I say, we won't let you down or forget our lives here. We're leaving everything we ever knew behind, but in doing so we're finding new things. Let us, as students as young adults, make everyone here proud to say 'I knew them'!" She said loudly. The crowd erupted in cheers for the usually shy girl's speech, everyone feeling both less afraid of leaving the school and more ready and willing to go enter the world of adults, of high school and jobs. Grace smiled at the crowd as the chairs were moved and the music began to play, the after-ceremony dance beginning. It was at this time that Grace slipped away from the crowd and out of the building unnoticed.
"Hey, have you seen Grace? I wanted my grandmother to meet her." Anna James said to Cole shortly after the music started, said boy having been trying to find her since her speech ended. Behind Anna was Mrs. James, the head of the English department at the local high school.
"No...I've been looking for her since her speech ended." Cole admitted to them.
"You won't find her." Came Belldonna's voice suddenly, drawing attention to her.
"What do you mean?" Annie asked her.
"She left after her speech. That was a few minutes ago...who knows how far away she is by now." Belldonna explained, Cole's eyes widening before he apologised to everyone and ran out of the gym.
~Outside the School~
"Grace!" Cole yelled when he burst out of the school, looking around in an almost panicked way for the girl.
"If you mean that blonde friend of yours, she got in a car and drove off." Ananchel lied from atop the school. Cole turned to look at the celestial, feeling rage boil within him.
"Why didn't you stop her?!" He snapped angrily. Ananchel looked at him as if he were an idiot.
"Hello, celestial being, unable to touch or speak to humans here." She pointed out calmly. Cole had never noticed before, but Ananchel sat the same way Grace did when she was on top of her desk, her legs crossed and lightly kicking the foremost leg. Her hands were placed with her palms on the building as well, like Grace did when she was sitting on a desk. The only difference really was that Grace always sat straight up, her posture perfect, while Ananchel leaned back onto her hands when she sat.
"Your little friend is gone...if you could call her that, she certainly didn't seem to want to be your friend for the past few days." Ananchel pointed out. Before she could move black light seemed to engulf her, showing just how mad Umbra was with her, as he'd never actually used his powers against her before. It hurt her like hell, as she was a being of light, but she did not scream or even whimper. When he had finally calmed down and released his spell Ananchel looked as though she'd been dropped in the flames of hell, yet she did not seem to feel the pain. He expected her to say her usual line about being angry not suiting him before leaving, but the celestial disappeared without a word. He knew then that Ananchel had given up being nice to him...that he'd ruined everything with her.
