I've been sick for a week and a half and I sketched this at 1am last night and wrote in big bold letters "AND THEN THEY GOT MARRIED. THE END." across the page. I don't actually remember doing that, but I guess I did ROFLnot that I'm complaining
I have been struggling with the urge to do nothing but draw these overly affectionate weenies for days. I love them so much, it's not okay. I've had a really bad cough for the past few days and they're the only thing that has made me feel less miserable 
I like to think that once they get over the initial 'Mother of Chaos, we're dating...' thing, they get more comfortable with being openly affectionate with one another. It's typically not by physical means, as they really thrive on just spending time together, even if it includes work, and talking their hearts out. But when it is physical, Shard usually initiates it and does so by completely catching Nicole off guard. Sweeping her off her feet in a literal sense is typically his favorite tactic, and she can't help falling for it every time. What can I really say, free will or not, they're creatures of routine and habit
at this point i don't even care what anyone says, they are the best, they belong together, they're my cinnamon rolls, and i'm stealing them

Well, I think of it this way. Shard has lived on through the fandom despite being wiped out in the Genesis Wave years ago- I firmly believe that Nicole can do the same, as can all the Archie characters. After 24 years, they'll be hard to forget ^^

I entirely agree with you. I would have loved to see more interactions between these two before the reboot happened. It absolutely crushes me that- now more than ever, with the comics fate uncertain- that we'll never get to see that play out canonly. Even if it was just expanding on their friendship, particularly in the aftermath of Shard's fight with Metal in SU 50, there was a lot of opportunity to develop their characters and their relationship. I can only imagine what could have been done following repairing Shard and how his near death would affect Nicole in particular, given she was still coping with losing her other closest friend. Their dynamic as a whole was so interesting and different, and it was very cool how more of Shard's 'true personality' was expressed through his time with Nicole. You could tell that they bounced off of each other very well

Indeed, before the reboot. It was easy to tell that the relationship between Shard and Nicole was really building up and going to grow exponentially. Yet sadly, just as it was kicking into high gear the valves had to be shut off by Overlord Penders. And then to make things worse, Shard and Nicole's relationship could still have existed after the reboot since Penders didn't take possession of Shard. But SEGA after the reboot introduced all these stupid mandates like no blood relatives for characters like Sonic, no more romance, only one metal sonic at a time, etc. It was stupid and crippled the comics tremendously so Fuck SEGA. Still, looks like none of this matters anymore since it looks like the comics have been cancelled. It hasn't updated in months, so oh well. Doubt the comic will ever being getting its own rebirth event to bring back these lost amazing characters anymore. what a shame and sad fate to such a wonderful and developed comic landscape.

This is very true. I like to think that- given that it was confirmed by Flynn that there were still 'plans for Shard', and thus that he was supposed to survive past SU#50- they would have acted on the potential between Shard and Nicole. There was so much opportunity there, even on a platonic level, that would have been really interesting and probably pretty sweet and good for developing their characters. The major reason that Shard isn't going to return is because Penders laid claim to the concept of his power gem core (which wasn't even his to begin with, ahaaa..) and thus, without it, Shard isn't even Shard anymore. The romance mandate is interesting because last I heard, it only really applied to SEGA characters. I suppose Archie could pair up their own characters without much issue, as long as it didn't involve any game related characters, so at that point it probably wouldn't be worth it to focus on the romance at all. And I'm honestly curious if the 'One Metal Sonic at a time' mandate would have even applied to Shard- he was technically a Mecha model and also his own character at that point. We need more Robians in the main cast anyways, haha.
I am still holding out hope that the comics are simply on hiatus, honestly. Like you, I'd hate to see everything that they've built just vanish and never be used again. I wanted Shard and Nicole to meet again, but not on these terms 👍: 0 ⏩: 2

At this point. its truly dead. the writers are looking for new work, so I have no hope anymore. Besides, it was dead the moment the reboot happened to be honest. the world just felt so empty without the characters and concepts that had been built up over the years. why continue when their is no more of the things the attracted me to the comics in the first place. I enjoyed the sonic comics because of all the neat characters you saw no where else(my favorite being Elias Acorn), the romance, a truly evil Dr. Eggman who has caused real noticeable damage, and so much more. now, its all gone, no romance, barely any unique characters, Eggman is more moral, the world is now more like the games and that's not what I want. so if the comics did somehow resume, why return. theres no Shard anymore after all, not unless this world is getting a rebirth to bring them back.
