Description Found this on my desktop and decided to finish it. Started to work on it late last year, finished it recently.

Wonder if those two ever met? Both are magic users and both seem to be immortal. Also their magic is very similar too(animal transforming).
Hope they will appear in the new DuckTales episodes!

I find those two another interesting couple. And Circe is another underloved character.
I like playing with people's mind in this picture. It could be something erotic or just something silly. Wonder if they ever met before, since they both use (similar forms of)magic.

He is still more popular than Merlock(which is good!), checked out some Ratigan-fan art yesterday. There is hardly any fan art and no merchandise of Merlock though. That's why I hope to see him again in the new DuckTales episodes.
Love Ratigan's design too! He is very handsome and attractive, I might do a drawing of him too.

Hehe! Yes he is I had a crush on him since I was little! I would love to see your rendition of Ratigan!

GantzAistar In reply to Shrewgirl [2015-09-13 04:52:02 +0000 UTC]

That would be great! Would love to see your take on him!
I also find you are one of the best artists that draws Ratigan!

Same thing with me and Merlock! Had a huge crush on him as a little kid and when I rediscovered him I fell for him again. But this time much harder!
Wish I still had the drawings of him when I was little.
Still find it sad how barely anyone remembers Merlock. Lots of people think he is one of my OCs and he doesn't even appear in lists of "most underrated Disney villains". :/

And I agree with the post you made on Tumblr, where it said something like "loving a character as child, then the character fades away but is never forgotten because they live in your heart. And then you discover that character again and you love the character even more than before. "
I think one of the reasons for that is that those characters are part of our life and are something like an invisible friend that guides us trough the childhood. And for us they were(and are) one of the reasons that we draw. Now with their return; not only we love them the way they are, but also because of all the great memories we had in our childhood. *Us = all people that have favourite characters for life.

Awww Β Thank you so much. This means a lot to me considering I struggle a lot to get his design right

It's funny though, I was actually afraid of him at first, then I had a crush on him right after. Time went on and I totally forgot about Ratigan. Β Fast forward to present day; now all I do is draw him! I tell you, these characters stick with us for the rest of our lives.

When I saw one of your pic I recognized Merlock right away. I forgot he even existed I'm glad I got to see your work because my love for Ducktales came back stronger yeah, he should be recognized more because he is underrated! KH3 is coming out soon, both him and Ratigan would have made great villains in the game IMO.

Yup! They will never leave us if it wasn't for Ratigan and GMD I would've never picked up a pencil again!

GantzAistar In reply to Shrewgirl [2015-09-13 22:37:29 +0000 UTC]

The way you draw him is perfect! He looks onmodel and lively!

It was similar with Merlock. The first time I watched the movie I thought that Merlock(especially when he turned into that bear)will cause a bloodbath. With his sharp teeth, huge size, hot temper and strength he could easily rip someone tho shreds. He is like a werewolf.
But when I watched it again, I started to like him and the love grew so more I watched that movie. Now I find him rather adorable and funny.

I doubt the characters will be in there. Ratigan might has a chance though. But it might be not the last KH. I find those two should team up!

You know what's great with the characters in GMD, they could live easily in the DuckTales/Darkwing Duck world too(at least the comic versions). Since in that world there are different versions of anthros. I also notice that some of those anthros are closer to humans and some are closer to animals. I like those who are closer to animals.

Aww, thanks, hun :3

It's the same with Ratigan, his facial expressions scared the hell out of me, not to mention he went feral towards the end of the movie. Though, after a while, I got over it and started to like him.
Early this year I was reintroduced to GMD by a thread on a website I frequent....and thus started the Ratiganmainia.Β Β As an adult I appreciate him more.
Yeah, Ratigan maybe, but it is more 90's- present day Disney characters, or golden era Disney like Cinderella etc.

They should team up, it would be epic Β

Yes, it would make a good crossover! I like both type of anthros

GantzAistar In reply to Shrewgirl [2015-09-14 17:34:30 +0000 UTC]

He is kind of like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. First you are scared because the person looks way different, but once you are past the looks you appreciate their personalities. And with loving the personality you also love the rest of the character.

I got back to Merlock, because of the release of the DuckTales game(2013 ?)and the conversation that I had with friends about the show and the movie. A friend of mine gave me the movie and I watched it(first time in english)again after a long long time. It was just as I remembered and I even remembered some of the german sentences the characters would say. Couldn't stop smiling! And Merlock slowly sneaked back into my heart.

Still kinda sucks that in the movie the Beagle Boys or even Magica the Spell didn't show up in the movie as the 2nd antagonist

I personally like the way it is in the movie. Otherwise it would be too many characters. Even Launchpad didn't got enough time to shine. And the characters you mentioned already had(and have in the european comics)their time to shine. But it would have been great if they had made more DuckTales movies.
But they are going to do new DuckTales episodes, so we are most likely going to see those characters again!
But it would be interesting to see Magica's reaction to Merlock! A friend of mine(unfortunately not on DA anymore)made a great drawing of Magica trying to steal Merlock's talisman! I love the villains in DuckTales!

grimphantom In reply to GantzAistar [2015-09-11 23:58:47 +0000 UTC]

Too bad i missed that, would have been cool to see

I still feel they could add the Beagle Boys instead of Dijon tho he did had his moments but it wasn't one of the henchman you where hoping to see.

Honestly i could've seen it more of an adventure, not returning from Duckburg till the end and probably go for something more than the Genie, i didn't see much of being likable or playing an important role with the characters, Merlock was the best of the new characters which its ashamed he didn't interact with other Ducktales villains like Flintheart and Magica.

I will wait and see how that turns out since it will be CGI, obviously if they had done it in 2D the characters would look very different from the original and with CGI probably just a slight change but not as much. I do wonder who will voice Scrooge because lets face it, Alan Young is 95(96 this coming November) and not saying he can't voice the character but since it will be a new series and it will involve multiple episodes, it will be hard for him especially since he's the main character. Grey Delisle would be perfect for Magica the Spell.

What i hope of the show is that it has a story arc just like it had with the first episodes of the first season where they try to find treasure and lost civilization and other cool themes. Β

Yeah, I can see that. Love the desert/egypt moments the most, but the thing is that this movie was/is mainly aimed towards kids.
I don't care much for the genie either. But then again, I find the villains a lot more interesting than the heroes.
The reason why Merlock had Dijon, because he is a local. But I had a dream at some point where I was in Duckburg and found out that Merlock is the leader of an underground crime organization. He lost his power, but he is still strong and evil. And since he would be stuck in Duckburg, he could team up or lead the Beagle Boys as a revenge on Scrooge.

"Merlock was the best of the new characters which its ashamed he didn't interact with other Ducktales villains like Flintheart and Magica."

That's why I hope to see Merlock in the new DuckTales episodes! They brought Dijon back. It would be such a waste not bringing Merlock back.

If it is CGI, I hope it looks good! But I personally hope for the 2D style. But then again even with 2D things can go wrong(praying it is not cheap Flash or Toonboom!).
I'm happy but I'm also really nervous. Really hope the majority of people that work on the new DuckTales are fans of the show!

Also Merlock's voice acting could be tricky, since he was voiced by famous Christopher Lloyd and who knows how busy and expensive he is? But then again, Merlock appeared also as villain in video games and was voiced by someone else.
Let's hope that Alan is healthy and willed enough to do Scrooge's voice again! I know he did in the new Mickey Mouse shorts when Scrooge appeared.

grimphantom In reply to GantzAistar [2015-09-12 03:33:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but do remember Young's cameo was a bit small. You can say he did a longer dialogue in the video game but still you can hear him a bit tired and not the same energetic as he did in the original series. I do believe a new actor will voice Scrooge but i like to see who. I do hope Alan Young had a pupil to teach him how to voice Scrooge the same way they did with Donald Duck.

For Merlock's voice i can pic Corey Burton voicing him unless Christopher Lloyd calls him and reprise the role, Lloyd is a good sport and he had done voice acting before, recently on Over the Garden Wall.

I hope so as well with the CGI since it does come up tricky and want to see them in a style that's appealing to everyone. They do say that Darkwing Duck and Kim Possible are next for a reboot but i do think they will wait how Ducktales will do first.Β

GantzAistar In reply to grimphantom [2015-09-12 21:36:15 +0000 UTC]

The problem also is when people age the voice changes too, or when a voice actor and singer smokes so much that it changes the voice. :/ I noticed that especially with John K. as Ren(new R&S episodes).
And I hate it when people die or quit and the new voices are really off. You often have that with voice actors who have a very unique voice.
It happened in the german Simpson's where the german voice actor for Marge died. I love her voice(even more than the original one!) and I was so sad when I heard that she died. There is a new voice actor now(actually someone I like), but it is still not the same. So I watch the new episodes in english now.

Unless Merlock is going to appear a lot in the new DuckTales, it shouldn't be too hard to hire Christopher again. They managed to get Nicki Minaj in Steven Universe, so it shouldn't be too hard for a big company like Disney to hire Christopher again.

As for the CGI, I hope it is going to look like this; www.gaumontanimation.com/wp-co…
I don't like it when they try to make it look like overly detailed/realistic, it often becomes awkward and creepy, like this: media1.santabanta.com/full1/Ho…
I also love when they mix CGI and 2D.

I agree completely with ya. I personally when it comes to DBZ i prefer the Latin America Dub alot more than the american and japanese dub also i do feel sad when a voice actor dies (Gary Owens, Christine Cavanaugh, Casey Kasem). I also like the dub from the early seasons of the Simpsons but when they changed the voices of most of the characters it's not the same as you with Marge with the German dub.

I do believe they can, if Christopher Lloyd is in good shape and take it on voicing Merlock if he becomes a regular that would be cool but if not my other choice is Corey Burton.

What i like to see is that when they move and have a reaction(funny, scared, shock) that it feels natural and fun, not stiff and not too funny since they make CGI Β a bit lifeless sometimes, mostly in TV series.

Oh i don't think that would happen(pray it won't lol) pretty much they studios are learning from their mistakes since Sony is making a new Smurfs movie but this time they will look more faithful from the cartoon.........i wish they did the same with Alvin and the Chipmunks........they won't die!!!

GantzAistar In reply to grimphantom [2015-09-13 22:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Saw a new photo of Christopher today and he looks very healthy to me. I'm not picky on his voice either, because(again)I grew up with a "different" Merlock. In the german dub he has a rather dark and deep voice, which I like.

One problem I have with modern media(Flash, Toonboom, CGI) I often get tired of looking at it. The reason for that is we are looking at the same drawing all over again. I don't know if you ever used any of those programs, but there are libraries full of the character's pieces which will be moved around and rearranged , depending on the scene. Even though the characters have different poses, the pieces are often the same.
Back in the days when those technologies were not around, people were forced to redraw every pose. Reuses were hard to do.

I hope too!!! And I'm scared how successful those Chipmunks movies are, according the fact that they keep making them.
I tried to watch one(because I like to give things a chance) and couldn't watch it more than 10 minutes! The designs of the chipmunks are actually not too bad, but boy are they annoying and unfunny! Felt so embarrassed to watch that! >.<

If he's in top condition they should get him to voice especially since he can do more with his voice acting career.

I see what you mean, that's why i still go for 2D since you can't get that same effect especially when you want the character to react in an exaggerated way. It's like with horror movies, have you seen the John Carpenter's The Thing? Those special effects where ahead of its time and still good as today, probably beat everything we seen of CGI, i don't think it will beat it.

They did a 2011 version of The Thing and Β you can tell how boring the design of the creatures look also how fake they move while they are attacking someone unlike the 1982 version where everything was practical. I still give the show a chance but if it doesn't get my interest i will just move on and watch something else tho this will affect on the upcoming reboots of Darkwing Duck and Kim Possible so lets see how it works.

Nah don't blame yourself, Aistar! How you would know. I seen Scooby Doo live action movie(unfortunately but it hadΒ Linda Cardellini dang it ) but still kinda crappy movie that everyone can't deny they haven't seen a bad movie. speaking of Scooby Doo, i do hope the new movie(which will be animated) be good.

The best expressions and movements I have seen in CGI is in the "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs" movies, they made a fantastic job!
And also, so simpler the character design is, so easier it is to do different expressions.

Interesting! I should watch both versions. You have that with most movies where they didn't use CGI, because the creatures are technically really on set.
The problem is they rely too much on CGI, while CGI should be a helping hand if there are moments that can't be done in real life or for effects that would be too dangerous for the crew. Some movie makers are doing that now, that's one of the reasons why I'm exited for the new Star Wars movie.

I do the same and if I don't like it I don't do a huge fuzz about it. No one forces me to watch it and I still can go back to the versions I like.

I think I saw the first live action Scooby Doo too, but I forgot most of it.
Looks like the movie makers are learning now. And I can see that those creepy life action versions will be looked back at in shame.

Movies usually have some nice reactions like Hotel Transylvania, The Incredibles, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as you mention and you can say even Frozen.

TV shows those are the ones that need to work on that, especially when they react to something, they need to have a more funny reaction when something happens.

The 2011 is not bad since the main cast is good but you do wish some of the cast should've stayed and get a more awesome death scene. If you haven't seen the 1982 version i so highly recommend it! You will be amazed with the special effects. The main guy for the FX Rob Bottin even got sick and taken to the hospital because he was putting alot of effort on the special effects and when you see the movie you see why and worth it.

CGI is not bad but as you mention the way if it's handle correctly, if they use for scenes where they can obvious use practical do that instead but if it comes to a scene with really difficult shot then go with CGI but as you mention, lately movies are using practical effects once again, an example the recent movie of Mad Max.

Same here and people don't get it. I see people complain over Michael Bay's TF how they despise the movies YET they still watch them.....how's that work? You're support the same thing you hate and you ask why Paramount still giving Bay money to work on more movies? It's with the whole Trump thing recently.

I do hope they turn out well, especially Scooby Doo and the Smurfs so the studio can see that they don't need to make live action on everything or at least cartoons that don't fit with live action AT ALL.

GantzAistar In reply to grimphantom [2015-09-15 01:43:13 +0000 UTC]

That's true! I hope they catch up on that with the TV-shows.
I really hate when the CGI in live action is so obvious that it really sticks out and throws me out of the story! Animal and monster characters are still very bad with that. :/ Just watched a newer movie that showed some monsters and a fox, especially the fox looked very fake. Especially with animals I can tell right away if they are fake or not. They could have used a trained tame fox, especially with clicker training you can train pretty much any animal.

I love Mad Max! It was a lot better than I thought! I have good hopes for future movies. Sure there will be some directors that learn slowly(like Mr. Bay), but they will eventually catch on. The box office and reviews will help!

I don't get it either, as if they want to be angry! >.< Also that explains why they keep making those shitty movies and making directors like Bay rich. Stupid people make stupid people famous.
I would never spend a penny into a movie, game or comic where I know it is going to suck! I would feel like an idiot! I wait till I get it from a friend or it is on TV to have a look at it. Also the crap that is going on with other stupid celebs, I do my best to ignore them and won't even mention their names, because even negative reactions make those people famous.

I also hope if those movies are good, that they will be popular too. We need more good stuff!!!

Exactly! I like how most manga and anime point that out and show the villain's reasons. That's also one of the reasons why I don't like most villain's endings in Disney-movies and other western animation. But then again, I'm a person that believes in the good of each person and I think everyone deserves a second chance.
There are usually reasons why people do certain things.
